I saw someone comment on the PG situation on PD that a potential sale of the franchise could have had something to do with PG's decision to go. I think they were speculating. I also came across an article referencing Bill Simmons as saying Bird might have decided to step away due to a potential sale of the franchise. He didn't go into much detail but said there is talk within NBA circles that the Pacers could be a team that becomes for sale.
It makes me wonder who potential buyers would be. I'm guessing the chances of the Pacers staying in Indy would not be great if they are sold. Does anyone think there is any truth to these rumors/speculation?
Anyone think the Pacers might become for sale?

I think as long as Simon is alive the team will stay. I've got no clue when he is no longer around.

Simon has maintained that if he ever decides to sell the team he would choose a group who reps the Hoosier state.
Besides, Indy is the 14th largest city in the US and is a hotbed for NBA talent. So if it ever got to this point you'd have at least 10 NBA owners who'd love to move into Conseco and assume the Pacers' identity.

I'm working on making enough money to buy and keep the Pacers in Indiana.

I don't think Indy is under any threat to move. Indy is a bball hotbed, the pacers have always been a well run and respected organization. Conseco isn't old at all either.

Unless something has changed, i thought the person who will succeed Herbert Simon is his son Stephen. I know Stephen has been much more involved lately, last few years with day to day operations of the franchise and has been promoted/given the title of NBA Governor.

I think that's right. at one time there was concern that David, who I think is Mel's son, lacked interest but now Stephen has become the face of the next generation., It was note worthy that in one of the recent press conference videos, not sure which one but maybe Pritchard's on taking over, Stephen was included in a short list of people being thanked.
