I know it would be a sea change, but I've wondered how the place would look without the quote feature, particularly GD. I generally like to see everyone's take on a topic. The problem is when people get into a drawn out exchanges, and these typically aren't as interesting. Most threads seem to dissolve into long strings of mostly people quoting one another, and it can mean a lot of scrolling to actually get to more fresh takes.
I think it would also cut back greatly on the more hostile attitudes. My guess is most infractions result from an exchange.
I frequent another major, very active website without the quote feature and it makes for much better reading.
Discontinue the "quote" feature?

Laimbeer,
We like to use it to allow for notifications and debates.
The Moderators make sure those debates are clean.
I do not see us changing this.
