Nashty: Game 7 @ Nets

Post#1 » by batsmasher » Wed Nov 1, 2017 2:01 am

Standings

How it works
Spoiler:
After each Suns game, an MVP thread will be opened for you to vote for your top 3 players. These threads can be created by anyone, as long as there isn't currently a thread for that game.

Anyone can vote for the 3-2-1 (including other fans from other forums) but you can only vote for the Suns players (or coach).

3 votes to who you think was a the best Suns player.
2 for the second best
and 1 for the 3rd best.

**EDIT: as of January something-or-other 2017, you can now distribute votes for the Nashty and Cactus however you please. You have a total of 6 votes to give out, but now you have the freedom to do what you want with those 6. The only condition which applies is no more than 3 votes can be given to one player (or coach) in either award. **

In the event of a Suns loss, you are also encouraged to vote for the Cactus of the game:

-3 votes for the player most responsible for the loss
-2 votes for the second most responsible
-1 for the third most responsible

Any votes with more than 3 players listed and not in the required format will not count. Voting will close before the start of the next Suns game.

After the thread closes, the votes will be tallied. The highest scoring total Sun gets 3 points, the next 2, and the third gets 1 point towards their season total. In the event of a tie in a count for a game, if the result of the game is a Suns win, a maximum of 4 players will be awarded points. A tie in the event of a loss will only result in a maximum of 3 players getting awarded points.

The player with the highest total at season's end wins the award!

The same applies for the Cactus of the Year, although of course the lowest tally at year's end takes it.

+2 Booker. 32 points and passing the ball pretty well.
+2 James. 24 points and he made some clutch shots.
+2 Warren. 20 points (14 in the fourth quarter) and 11 boards.

HM to Bender, Len and Chandler. We dominated the paint with our size (Len 15, Chandler 13) and Bender played a vey good game on offense too.

Hard to choose today-- lot's of good stuff from a number of players!

+3 Booker: He wasn't perfect by any means, but 32-4-7 on good %s gets the +3 from me.
+1 TJ: Only reason he doesn't take one of DB's +1s is the 0 assists; we couldn't have won without him though, his offensive game is wild.
+1 Mike James: Hate the hero ball, love the points. Mike James is good, y'all! I don't like it either ;)
+1 Dragan: WATCH OUT, WORLD, DRAGAN IS FIGURING IT OUT.

Some other notes:
+: LOVED Triano managing his rotations to make sure Dragan finished the game-- he should absolutely be finishing games now, he's so valuable.
+: Ulis was clutch-- we needed some of those buckets.
+: Alex rebounded the hell out the ball today, good god
?: Not quite sure how Tyson was +26 lol. Not saying he was bad, but..
-: Man, JJ is taking longer to adjust to the speed of the game offensively than I thought he would :(

+3 Warren: Won us the game in the 4th. Outstanding effort on both ends the second half.
+2 Booker: Second 30+ game in a row on good efficiency. The lead he built for us in the third made the win possible.
+1 Bender: Best game he has played as a pro. He may already be our best defender. I'm starting to believe that he is going to be very special.

+2 Booker (would be a +3 but need to distribute points)
+2 Warren (would also be a +3 but need to distribute points)
+1 Bender (may be his best NBA game ever...love everything about it)
+1 James (say what you want, we don't win this game without his 24/3/5/4 on efficient shooting)

Shoutout to Tyson Chandler too. Game best +26 and I'll take 13 boards every day

Nashty
+1 Triano - 3-1 under Triano. He's invigorated our offense and put Booker in a position where he no longer relies on (but still does on his own accord at times) iso offense. He's made him efficient and he's instilled a lot more ball movement and actual plays.
+1 Bender - Booker/Warren kept us in the game but Bender closed it out for us with his clutch 3 and defense throughout the game. He's showing me some of the skills which got him drafted #4. He's fast becoming one of my favourite Suns players
+1 James - Credit where credit's due. He came up big towards the end, he kept his composure and he ran the team like a true floor general. He's never gonna average 10apg like a CP3 or Nash but the way he runs the team, controls tempo and hit big shots reminds me a little of Chauncey Billups. I want to make sure he gets acknowledged for his game today.
+1 Booker - He almost doesn't deserve only +1 because of how good he was in this game. He was efficient, he did a bit of everything, I liked his defensive effort and his jumpshot gives me a funny feeling in my crotchal region. Still think he iso's more often than he needs to but it's definitely much better than under our old life coach.
+1 TJ - Warren's 2nd half performance playing in foul trouble, making some strong plays down the stretch while logging 20/11 on only 12FGA and the +8 did it for me. I thought I saw a smile when he made that clutch offensive board and putback, maybe it's my imagination...
+1 Chandler - again, credit where credit's due. Game high +23 with a solid rebounding effort. I thought he moved well out there and altered a lot of shots. He didn't score much but he played his role setting up screens and rolling to the basket to draw defensive attention away from the ball handler.

Cactii
-3 Chriss - I dunno about this guy. He's had one outstanding offensive game all season and fails to really show much of anything in the other games. Even when Bender isn't contributing offensively, he does a bit of everything else, especially on defense. Disappointing....
-2 Len - The guy has hands of stone. If he had Okafor's touch, he'd be signed to a fat deal right now but I don't understand how a 7 footer can consistently brick shots right under the basket against shorter defenders. Great rebounding game but he also finished up with a game worst -18...I'm as confused with Len's performance as I am with Warren's 20/11 and +8 with 5 fouls all game.
-1 Jackson - He's a young guy trying to do a little too much. I thought he got a bit frustrated out there today and tried to take things into his own hands. Not what we need from the young fella. All a learning process

Nice game from so many people. The real TJ is back. Shooting over 50% with a double double and a block. Great game from Book, if he can cut down the turnovers it will look real nice. Great games from James and Bender.

Chandler good get some props as well.

This is tough to distribute because it's almost like they all deserve 2 (the top 4 mentioned). Almost a 3 for TJ though with the play down the stretch, double double and no turnovers.

Then it's hard to give Book more than James when James shot more efficiently AND added 4 steals. But I can't leave Bender out who played well too.

I guess I'll go with:

+2 James
+2 Warren
+1 Booker
+1 Bender

+3 Warren
+2 Booker
+1 Bender

I was thinking about negative numbers for Chriss and JJ but they played hard just not well. Len killed us on the +/- but he dominated the boards. Those small ball lineups gave him problems.

+2 Booker
+2 Bender
+2 TJ

Honorable mention: Triano, Mike James (yes, I'll be the a..hole who points out that I'd rather have this young team play the right way and lose than hero ball and win - much better that way in the long run. But a very good game from MJ nevertheless, and I'm pumped from winning an away game! Just no Nashty for it from me.)
