Any interest in Nikola Mirotic?

Post#1 » by 313 Professor » Thu Nov 9, 2017 4:24 am

Read something today about teammates siding with Portis after he Tyson'ed Mirotic in practice. Any interest?

Things are going well for us but... his contract has the team option on it next year and he's a intriguing offensive player. Potential buy-low... :-?

For Leuer? Sure.

Leuer has net negative value. They'd as soon keep Miro for the season and then he's surely opt out and become a UFA. They have Markanen and Portis at PF - fighting for PT was the bad blood between Mirotic and Portis to begin with I believe. That and as a free agent Nikola stayed away from the Bulls off-season workout program and players resented him for that.

Might as well go for Boban and Leuer, see if they’re really dumb

The only reason i'd make this trade is so that SVG can't put leur in the rotation. If we trade for Mirotic he'll be riding the bench all season. Defensively he brings nothing to table, and i mean nothing

From a cap POV Jon would be glorious to deal for Mirotic.

And that would take a first rounder...

From Chicago's POV Bobo probably makes more sense though & in that case we shouldn't have to give up a first or any other asset...

But that doesn't help our cap since we'd still have Jon!

Leuer for Mirotic doesn't make any sense for us, in fact Mirotic doesn't make sense, we have Tolliver who is 10 times better than Mirotic... Only reason would be to get out of Leuer's deal, not for basketball purposes.

Mirotic has to have some baggage of his own if all the Bulls are siding with Portis. Not even sure I'd want to bring him into our lockerroom. Two positions of need on this team are back-up Ce and back-up SF. The latter is necessary if Harris is a full time PF.

With all the trade threads flying around, can someone please tell me what team in the league takes on the Pistons' crap in return for a player that benefits the Pistons?

Oh wait--this is the fan base that bitches that first rounders don't play enough while at the same time wants to trade away first round draft picks on at any opportunity.

You can't play both sides. Either you value first rounders because you want them to play or you trade the pick away because you don't put value in first rounders. And don't play the "may as well trade the pick since Stan won't play that player anyway" game. That's what we call a self fulfilling prophesy.

Or you realize Stan won't play the first rounder anyways so might as well trade it for a player he will play.

That's the self fulfilling prophesy. So when the player traded for crashes and burns you can say, "Oh well. Stan wouldn't have played the draft pick anyway." Except that now you're stuck with an older crashed and burned player versus a young player who hasn't played much and still could become a good player.

In my defense I've only proposed trading Jon with a first because:

1 - the going rate for dumping salary is a first

2 - our cap situation will get more intense after this season (AB) & next (Tobias, SJ, Ish)

That's 4 vital pieces of our current 8-3 line up needing new contracts...and we're already extremely close to the tax

Moving Jon for a expiring would be ideal...

Moving Jon for a dude that expires after next season would be great too.

For me it's all a choice:

Hope Gores is willing to pay a lot of tax the next 3 years

Or

Give up a first to move Jon so we lessen the tax burden

Here's what I'd say to that...if a team can sustain an 8-3 winning percentage wouldn't you be willing to pay the luxury tax?

Yes of course but do you think this team can maintain that winning percentage?

Even the most optimistic fans would have us winning around 45 games.

IF that still holds true then the question is:

Will Gores pay significant tax for 3 years in order to maintain it?

I noticed the trade restriction concluded. I think it's imminent that Chicago will find a trade partner for Mirotic within the next few days. I would be considerably bitter if SVG gives up a 1st round draft pick for him. Hope he ends up in Utah.

With Mirotic Chicago is 13-7, without him they are 4-21

He's their leading scorer and 2nd best rebounder while only playing the 5th most minutes on the team @ 25 MPG.

His 45.7 on (6.4 attempts) is the 2nd best 3pt % in the NBA.
His TS% 63.6 is 23rd in the NBA
His 26.3 is the 23rd best defensive rebounding rate in the NBA
His 23.83 PER is 15th in the NBA (For comparison Drummond is 18th with 23.65)

So to summarize, Mirotic would not be a "lateral move."
