Mario Hezonja

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Fri Nov 10, 2017 6:23 am

I don't like Mario Hezonja or Luka Doncic. I never buy into the hype euro players get year in and year out, I'm also not a fan of Hezonja and his flaws, but I am a big fan of getting players for cheap, just like when the Hawks got Millsap, Korver, and Carroll for cheap.

The Magic will release Mario after this year because he has been another euro bust, but should the Hawks go after Hezonja, especially for a cheap price?

Hezonja has alot of flaws that most international players have, but Mario is family with the euro game and Budz's system is very similar to they euro system.

I'm all for it.

He'll likely be a low cost option and his NBA career is in the balance--meaning he'll be motivated.

I have read the biggest issues have been attitude related, so he might be unsalvageable.

But he has good size and athleticism and a high ceiling to improve. We're still years away likely from contention, so take a flier and a chance on Okafor and Hezonja both!!!

Let' see if we can salvage some of that disappointing 2015 draft talent.

Depends on the contract he's looking for in the offseason. He's still only 22.

I loved Hez and Stanley Johnson coming out of that draft. Neither has lived up to my initial expectations. I'd take a flyer on him for sure.

Heck, yeah. Both of those kids intrigued me as well.

ORL has notoriously failed to develop many young wings over the last few years.

Oladipo is having a career year in Indy and Tobias looks like a legit NBA starter.

I absolutely could see Hezonja thriving away from the dysfunction and instability in O-Town.

I want us to go after him as well. We need young talent which we can develop while rebuilding. Yes to Hezonja and to Okafor.

M Hezonja is suddenly getting a steady dose of PT and seems to be rounding into form.

Mario is avg 11 points and 5 rebounds per game in his last 5 games (in only 25 minutes).

In a recent loss to Detroit, he dropped 28 points while shooting 8-12 from 3-pt range. He's hovering around 40% from 3-pt land for the season.

Get this kid in here!!!

Start working to get this kid in here. I wouldn't be surprised to see him thrive in a better environment than ORL, same as Oladipo and Tobias.

I'd be interested to see how Hezonja and Doncic could pair on the wing together.

Mario Hezonja: A new dawn or a false hope?

After years of disappointment, Hezonja is making the most of his recent opportunities

his most recent four-game stretch has been tantalising enough to re-engage those initially faithful followers. With the Magic reeling on the wing due to injury Hezonja has been thrust into a much more prominent on-court role, and he’s largely delivered. Since being inserted into the starting lineup he is shooting the ball at a clip of almost 50% from the field, including 11 makes from downtown. His rebounding has been solid, he’s shown a willingness to pass the ball and make plays for others, and his defense has been surprisingly competent on most possessions. He has registered five steals and five blocks across these games, including some very athletic plays when challenging shots at the rim. In short, he has looked good!

A line of 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists against the Clippers was the first indication that there might be another level to his play, but it was the performance against the Pistons that has momentarily set hearts aflutter. Hezonja finished this one with a career-high 28 points, six rebounds and two assists, as well as three steals and an absurd eight makes from deep in 12 attempts. His shot was confident and clean, and although he still occasionally tried to do too much with the ball in hand he played decisively and with confidence. He also had a few nice moments on defense, hitting rotations, closing out, and working hard when in one-on-one coverage.

It’s an incredibly small sample, but Hezonja has displayed a greater level of comfort and effectiveness during the team’s last four games. He has averaged almost 30 minutes across these contests, generally looking more engaged and active in a better-defined role. The coaching staff appear committed to finding him more advantageous situations on the court, catering to his strengths and allowing him to play through some of the mistakes that previously may have resulted in him being yanked.

I am also skeptical of Mario (and Doncic as well, for that matter), but if we were ever going to gamble a small- or fair amount on a player, I think now is the time to do it. We are sucking for the foreseeable future collecting assets so if we can get him on a reasonable deal then why not give it a whirl? What's it gonna hurt? For the right price it could wind up being a steal, but I admit I'm not totally convinced yet.

PS-And somebody pls tell Spud and others who have sent me PM's on here that I see them and want to respond but can't because I don't have enough posts yet or something. I think it allows me after 100 posts?

I agree with bringing him in for a looksee in the offseason. I don't think we shld trade anything of value for him.

That said, I'd do a Mario-for-Baze swap. hehe :)

Oh and I'll pass along the message to Spud2. I'm sure he's eager to get the *ahem* selfies you're trying to send.
