Torrey Craig

Post#1 » by skywalker33 » Sat Nov 11, 2017 11:52 pm

I think we have another SF on our roster that's pretty good. Torrey Craig is tearing up the G-League, dude just had another great game, destroying the Delaware affiliate scoring 37 pts. Now I know he's friends with Josh, I'd rather waive RJ and bring this guy up to the big leagues. He's showing good scoring ability yet is known for his defense, looks like we may have found a diamond in the rough.

I’m all for giving him a shot, but I’d hold off on calling his a Diamond in the rough just yet. Any player dominating the G-League is at best a 50/50 shot at making an nba roster.

Him scoring is nice but there’s absolute zero defense in those games

I don't see Craig as a starter by any means but I can easily see a backup that can perform. Too many teams have nice starting five but lack a quality bench. Just another asset IMO.

 and there have been people saying the same thing about Mudiay, but they don't speak so loud today - - - and there have been people saying the same thing about Murray, but they don't speak so loud today - - - and there have been people saying the same thing about Beasley and they are starting to wonder - - - and there have been people wondering about Hernangomez and they've started to believe - - - I'll stick with my same old line; let the young guys play while we aren't contenders and find out what they can do - let them learn

Craig is averaging 23.8ppg, worth a call-up IMO

With any other coach, I'd agree, but we've seen it before, Malone doesn't like to play young players even during "garbage time". He'll develop better anywhere but in Denver IMO. :banghead:

Craig was great in his first couple games but has been a marginal nba player since.

And yet they keep him on the roster, evidently Malone disagrees with you.

When do we have to sign him to a real contract and who will be the odd man out. Ild rather see a trade than someone released but we have to be coming close.

Not sure how they count "45 days". I thought it was by the calendar, but he was called up the last week of November. So maybe they sent him down for a while and I didn't notice?

I think they have to make a decision on him next week, they can send him back to the dleague until they can clear a roster spot, but it seems like half of his 45 days were wasted with Malone screwing with the rotations.

The announcers make a big deal about the Nuggets having used 18 different starting lineups. It was the same last year. There haven't been many injuries and even Millsap's injury is just a one-time lineup change. Malone just doesn't seem to know how to find a lineup so he keeps switching them. This may be where Chandler's complaint last year came from - about not knowing where he fit.

Last night Malone went offense-defense on the last few possessions and Barton was the SF on defense. It doesn't take PhD in kinetic physiology to understand that Craig is a better defender than Barton.

He is not too bad and he occasionally starts. He could blossom with more playing time but I would not bank on his solving Denver's small forward issue.
Canned in Denver.

He was our import last year form my Australian NBL team - Brisbane Bullets. He won the leagues Defensive player of the Year and was a solid player for us all year. He was not a huge scorer, more of a very good rebounding, defensive small forward, who could score in bunches. Have been following his progress into the NBA and I hope he sticks. Very solid team player

I look at Craig as a stopper off the bench, especially to break any runs. Only problem is his age doesn't fit in with our core. I'd bet he'll be on an NBA team, reminds me of bigger TR Dunn a bit.

So if the Nuggets want to create a roster spot for Craig, a guy who actually plays then why not waive the guy who doesn't in Richard Jefferson ??

I didn't catch the name but on the radio they had some "insider" saying 100% the Nuggets make a move before the trade deadline and apparently it involves signing Craig for the rest of the season. I like that. He may not fit the core-age but I think he'll fit nicely for a few years. How he'll fit is a question. Defensive stopper? He seems to have some offense. Starter? 15-20 off the bench? All I know is; I like him.
