Serbia-Spain-Canada Nuggets Prime Players

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Tue Jan 23, 2018 6:31 pm

It was suggested that we have a sticky for our Canadian players; but I think it should be for all of our non-USA players. They are making a difference for the Nuggets.

Jokic - need we say more? His greatest weakness is his greatest strength; total team player and not a "savior" (more or less).

Hernangomez showed great promise last year. This year appears to be lost for him, but I'm one fan that believes he'll come back even better and I am looking forward to that day. He can shoot for sure, but he hustles on defense and no doubt he'll get better on that end of the court; since defense is mostly about hustle.

Lyles is a major surprise to many this year. He's definitely got skills and he fits well on the Nuggets. In the modern NBA, he's valuable not just because of his shooting and driving, but his defense looks good and he can switch onto almost anybody from 1-5. Sure, he'll get beat by a few PGs and Centers, but he'll give them a fight.

Murray looks like he might be the "alpha" on the Nuggets eventually. Sure Jokic & Harris are the best players (for now) and Jokic will probably always be the most valuable, but neither of them are "give me the ball and get out of the way" finishers when the games on the line. They are too nice. Murray has that streak in him and he certainly isn't afraid of taking the big shot. He can drive, he can shoot mid-range and 3s. When you add in his hustle on defense (where he still needs to learn some), he shows great potential and is already clearly one of the top-3 Nuggets today.

Why has there been absolutely no news as to why Juancho isn't playing? Has he just fallen completely out of favor or is he still dealing with Mano? I just don't get why we haven't heard a word about him.

Mono saps your energy as the body is fighting off the virus, by the time Juancho got back strength enough to be able to be on the court, Malone had his rotation and Malone is a stubborn dude, hard for him to change his mind.

It takes several months to regain your strength and conditioning after Mono. He’s not sick anymore, but still likely in the recovery process and not at full strength.

It is my idea, and I'm still thinking it should be just TEAM CANADA special thread, instead of for all international Nuggets fans!

And I'm from Serbia, from where is current Denver's biggest star Nikola Jokic, but I don't think we should have some special thread for Serbian fans only, unless if in future will be allowed on this forum to write on other languages than English, or if some another notable Serbian player joins Denver (for example Nemanja Bjelica or Milos Teodosic which are FA this summer). Same about Juancho and our Spanish fans.

But difference about Canadians is because English is a native language for most of Canadians, and since December breakthrough we can say that right now for Denver playing best or 2nd best Canadian player Jamal Murray, and TOP4 (together with Murray, Wiggins, and Olynyk) Trey Lyles. From my experience how extremely popular was team Sacramento Kings in Serbia when TWO notable Serbian players at beginning of this century played there at the same time (Divac and Stojakovic), I have great expectations about new Denver fan base from Canada in upcoming near future.

Thanks to Steve Nash legacy and especially Toronto Raptors franchise, basketball is already much more popular there than ever in XX century, but I expecting a new level of basketball popularity in Canada in upcoming years with the expected global breakthrough of their National Team in near future. So probably already at Tokyo Olympics or just year or two later, it will be a most popular sport in Canada after Ice Hockey! Their projected supertalented Murray-RJ Barrett-Wiggins-Lyles-Olynyk starting lineup is destined to fight for medals in FIBA tournaments (Olympics and World Championships), and Denver should be ready for that hype. Our subforum here at RealGM also (that's why I suggested this special "Nuggets Canada" thread to be already open).

Nice read about Murray - includes some impressive stats, especially when comparing his "under 21" comparisons

Could we see Murray in 3pt shootout contest?

Hadn't thought of that but don't you think Lyles is the better pick? I don't know. Either would be a decent choice. I think Murray has the quicker release, so maybe you are right.

Some more likely choices would include:

Klay Thompson
Jayson Tatum - Rookie & near the top

Teams they might want to throw a bone to would include Denver and maybe;

Buddy Hield
Mikola Mirotic
Joe Ingles
