NBA Players With Rare Medical Conditions

Post#1 » by nbalife » Fri Jan 26, 2018 4:48 am

Many people would think that NBA Players are in perfect health due to their physical abilities. However they are normal people just like us and are suspectible to health issues. Matter of fact a lot of nba players face health issues on a daily basis. Conditions such as depression and ocd are common. However there are a few players with really rare medical conditions such as steve nash and randy foye. This video below will discuss NBA Players that suffered through rare medical conditions throughout their career:

The most crazy thing is that life expectancy of 7-footers is so drastically increased by the NBA (and the money it provides) that it skews the whole average, and most people would be ridiculously surprised at how young 7-footers truly die.

There's a reason being that tall is so rare, and it ain't because it's all peaches and cream, health-wise.

Generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and narcissistic personality disorder. All of which that aren't rare.

I was really sad when i found out he was a cancer patient.

And to think, nobody would have know if KG hadn't brought it to everyone's attention.
New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

Isaiah Austin (Marfan Syndrome) - he was never drafted but was made a ceremonial pick by Adam Silver during the 2014 NBA Draft. he was medically cleared to play in 2016. Signed last week to play in Lebanon. Naturalized player for the Philippine National Team.

Isaiah Austin is also blind in one eye, which is not rare in general but rare for a basketball player.

Again in the same sense, Tracy McGrady had scoliosis. Being someone who has scoliosis, I know that you're strongly adviced not to play basketball when you have it.

A generation from now doctors may call it Fultz syndrome... or just "The Fultz" (as in "he's got the Fultz").

Nance Jr has Crohn's disease.

Nance was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease when he was 16 years old. However, for several years before he received an official diagnosis, he suffered from symptoms of the disease – painful cramping, weight loss, fatigue, and stunted growth - with fatigue being the most debilitating. The extreme tiredness, a common symptom experienced by patients living with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, impacted his life majorly.

“I didn’t deal with [the fatigue] well. I laid around the house all day, I had no energy [to do anything],” he said. “I slept in class and I wasn’t that kind of kid… I didn’t have the energy to practice or play [any sports].”

After several years exhibiting symptoms, his parents realized that something was seriously wrong and took him to see the doctor. After performing a few diagnostic tests, Nance was diagnosed with Crohn’s.

He'd probably have gone to a much bigger college program than Wyoming if he was diagnosed earlier.

Don't know if it counts as medical condition as it was result of surgeries, but Dejuan Blair had no ACL's in either knee

Every time Ben Wallace shoots the ball his wrists goes out of place, and he always has to pop it back in. I don't know the exact condition of this nor the details, I remember the commentators mentioning it when he was at the free throw line one game.
