GT #49: Wizards @ Atlanta Hawks 7:30PM PM NBCSWA

Post#1 » by Kanyewest » Sat Jan 27, 2018 5:33 am

The Wizards lost last time at Atlanta 113-99 where Atlanta played a complete game for 48 minutes while Washington did not. Schroder scored 21 points, Ersan Ilyasova added 20 against the Washington Wizards. At the time the Hawks had the worst record and as of today, they still do. The Washington Wizards were coming off their best win of the season against the Celtics on Christmas.

This time around, the Wizards enter the game with consecutive losses and have no excuse to play down to the level of their competition. One of the bright spots to their loss to the Thunder was a 41 outburst by Bradley Beal. That being said, many Wizards were standing around on the defensive end as Russell Westbrook dropped 46 points. If Washington isn't careful and keeps losing games like this, they could find themselves out of the playoff picture.

Anyways, here's the last time Washington won a game in Atlanta. Hopefully, the heart of the team is still out there.

Watching that, I was struck by the difference between John Wall and Markieff then and now. They both were moving so much more fluidly.

To be honest, I expect the Wizards to lose. And this might be the loss that causes Brooks to change the starting line-up or Ernie to aggressively pursue a trade.

The Wizards haven't lost more than 2 in a row all season. It's one of the few areas where they've been consistent. They seem to get their act together and play hard once they lose 2 in a row. I think they'll win this one.

I don't know if the stats bear this out, but I feel like the Wizards are getting worse as the season goes, both offensively and defensively. Like I think they are playing worse now then they did in Nov or Dec.

They've lost 4 of their last 5 and 6 of their last 9, so, yes, they are playing worse. But I'm not yet convinced this is some kind of long term change in the team's ability to win games. It's just a funk. Most teams have periods like this.

I’m expecting the Wiz to play like dog spit, but pull out an ugly, close one nonetheless.

Honestly, we better win this game. I'm sick of the excuses, the poor effort, poor execution, and seemingly no adjustments from Brooks. Also sick of the poor me attitude. I looked at Atlanta's lineup. We easily have the better player at literally every position so no excuses.

I wanted to talk about something the other day when reading about Wall standing still. It also made me think of them having problems with Porter not moving in the 4th to make himself more available. My question is why or how.

I am not a pro but like everyone else, I used to hoop coming up and when I didn't have the ball, guess what? I always cut. I just don't understand how pros cannot. Shoot, I even used to cut for selfish reasons. I felt like I could get like 8ppg strictly from cutting or at least put myself or my teammates in better position for a score. Not only that but I would get alot of offensive rebounds because I was always moving so I got the weird bounces that you don't get from standing behind the 3pt line.

It just amazes me how pros would not want to take advantage of that and why a coach wouldn't emphasize it. I don't mean just casually say it in the media but actually yell at guys to move and tell them that they are coming out if not. The whole Porter thing is strange because if you remember, he was great at cutting before he was good at anything else. I used to make posts about how he was the only guy on our team who did so and how it opens up other things. Now they are saying that he of all people have to move and make himself more available? It doesn't make sense

It does boggle the mind. I see Curry and Irving cutting, setting screens, even crashing the offensive glass and they don’t have the gifts John has athletically.

Sato is starting tonight. I always like watching his movement without the ball. Frazier also moves without it but he needs to be aggressive.

But coaching is also another issue.

Actually, they don't. Ever since the overhaul of the medical staff following the Arenas debacle, I think our medical staff has been rock solid.

Last year, the starters missed a grand total of 17 games out of 410. This year, our 5 best players outside of Wall have missed a grand total of 12 games out of a possible 240. Even if you count Wall's 11 games missed, that's still only 23 games missed out of 288.

I'll also note that they took a frail Bradley Beal and managed to resolve his stress fracture issue and now he's a workhorse.

In general, they seem to be pretty cautious and very preemptive when dealing with injury concerns. The only weird exception is Otto. For some reason, they're letting him play hurt rather than letting him rest and get healthy.

It's a lot of fun watching Sato off the ball, both on offense and defense. He is constantly alert and constantly moving.

They’re going to play hard tonight 100%. Satoransky is starting and Frazier is coming off the bench. The effort level will be much higher. Do they win? No clue, but they are going to play much harder and the ball is going to move much more

I think they're going to get blown out.

If Sato starts I don't think they're going to get blown out.

They'll lose but they won't get blown out.
