How can I get excited for this? Promising player that tears Achilles, traded for nothing to save $$$.

YAY!

I liked Mac's potential... assuming he recovered from his injury of course.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Why?
We kept him on roster and cut other players last summer even though we knew he was injured. Why trade him now?

Complete guess of mine but but they are down to 13 spots on the roster and will probably be players in the buyout market.

Pure penny pinching move, probably keeps them under the $5 million threshold which saves them 25 cents on the dollar.

Hope he recovers from that brutal injury. I thought he had some really nice potential to be a two way combo guard that could create his own shot. Kinda like a non idiot JR Smith

Luxtax calculations are based on the roster that is in place on the last day of the regular season. By trading Mac, we save the prorated portion of his $1.3M salary (about $550K) but we get to remove the entire $1.3M off the luxtax calculation, which saves $1.95M.

Effectively, giving Mac away saved Ted $2.5M. Frankly, I'm curious why Atlanta did the deal. It seems like they're taking on the remaining $500K of his salary for no reason. I wonder if we also sent out cash to pay it.

Sweet!

I'm happy for Sheldon Mac.

The Wizards advance if Sheldon Mac and Tomas Satoransky had played in game 7 against Boston.

Wizards go to the Eastern Conference Finals... If they had a better coach who valued athleticism, energy, advanced statistics, etc.

When given the opportunity, SM had outstanding statistics in minutes he played. Now, Sheldon Mac gets another chance!

(Ironically, Shelvin Mack, resuscitated his career in Atlanta if I am not mistaken.)

I'm not sorry to see the young man go I just hope his Achilles heels fully... He's going to be real good.

Frankly, the trade is irrelevant in how it affects Mac's career.

Mac has an injury and won't be playing this year. He is an unrestricted free agent this summer. My guess is that he will be waived by Atlanta, or if nothing else, Mac won't even bother to move to Atlanta.

Do you think Ernie spaced out & thought he was trading Shelvin Mack -- again -- instead of Sheldon Mac?

Uh oh, perhaps a pasta-induced flashback by Ernie.

No, the deal was a win-win.

The Wizards paid Atlanta cash, probably slightly more cash than it would have cost them to pay Mac. But with the luxtax savings, the Wizards end up saving more than they gave Atlanta.

The only losers in the transaction are the other 24 or so under-the-luxtax teams in the league who now have $3.0M less in luxtax distributions to spread around.
