Wizards Hose Season Tickets Holders -- Again

Post#1 » by Nigel Tufnel » Thu Feb 22, 2018 5:15 pm

The Wizards have jacked up prices for season ticket holders once again. The back of the lower bowl is going up by 15%, other sections even more. And they have moved the cut-off for different price points in the lower bowl, so for example seats in Row J are going from $124 to $196. But at least their crack member "services" department did absolutely nothing to give any advance courtesy notice to customers who are getting screwed. I'm so finished with this under-achieving, over-priced garbage. Apologies for this rant. :banghead: :banghead:

i don't know why people bother giving their hard earned money to the Redskins or Wizards franchises. Both of them are running jokes in sports.

Okay, so I have an update. The Wiz must have heard bloody murder from the people in the rows that were reclassified to a much higher price point, and are giving us some relief. Rant withdrawn and thank you to the Wizards member services department.

I remember when the cheapest season tickets were so cheap... so tempting

But I couldn't do it... not with EG still as GM...

Waiting for other season ticket holders to weigh in.

In the old days, I got some fairly cheap tickets, but thanks to Terd n Ernie, now I never have to pay to see a Wizards game

I got a notice from the Wizards about a week ago that my season tickets (lower bowl) were being automatically renewed. I haven't checked to see what price those seats will cost next season but I will now...before confirming any renewal.

I'm in Row L and I currently pay about $60 less per ticket than people in Row H (which I believe is the cutoff point) in the same section.

Leonsis has no shame, the nerve of that guy to call out Snyder, they're both shysters of the highest order.

If you take a quick look at Ticketmaster for tickets available for upcoming games, you'll see the large swaths of unsold seats even for this Wednesday's game vs. GSW. For the high profile games, these seats end up being taken off the site 24 hours or so before the game and being given away.

I've looked around a bit at other teams. This is a pretty common phenomenon. Pricing is not set at levels that will maximize box office income.

So, we are in the second year of a TV contract that pays the NBA 180% more per year than the previous contract. Yet, after the big jump in the cap for 2016-2017, we have forecasts that cap growth will be 2-5% over the next few years.

Teams are purposely limiting their box office income (which is "basketball related") to slow growth in the cap and minimize profits so they can cry poor when they negotiate the next CBA. The added benefit for MSE is that if the Wizards can lose money on paper it becomes a justification for one of the local governments to pay for a new arena like DC did for the Lerners.

I would never buy season tickets. What are the perks anyway?

Two perks for me:

1. My wife and I get to go to every game...which is something we enjoy immensely. (Yeah, it's costly but we skimp/save elsewhere to be able to afford to do what we both love to do. Go Zards!) For those games that we can't or don't want to go to we can usually sell them through nba.com for either at or slightly below the $112 per ticket that we pay to sit in Sec. 110. (Each of my tickets come with a $15 food and beverage voucher so I'm actually paying $97 per ticket.)

2. We get to go to every game for the same non-inflated price. I just checked StubHub and tickets in my row in Sec. 110 are currently going for about $380 per ticket. I can either choose to sell my tickets for that price or I can go to the game, which I intend to do, and sit in those same seats for my regular cost of $112 per ticket.

The Wizards do something they call "dynamic pricing" so that, while I pay $112 per ticket for all 41 games, the price that appears on my season ticket fluctuates with every game. The price on my ticket for the GS game is $425, which is what it would cost me (or anyone else) to purchase it at the Cap One Center box office. The face value on my ticket for the Toronto game on Friday is $199, while the Pacers game on Sunday is priced at $155 per ticket.

BTW, after seeing this thread, I checked with my ticket agent a few days ago and my seats will indeed be increasing $10 per ticket next season.

As an individual (not a business), it makes sense If you're buying a full season plan and are committed to going to every game (or nearly every game), as DCZards is.

For any other situation, I'd say buying the individual games you want on the secondary market is a better value for money.

Here's the link to the 2018-2019 season plan prices:
