Dennis Schroder thoughts?
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2775986-dennis-schroder-says-he-could-imagine-being-traded-to-pacers-bucks
Thoughts? He is close friends with Vic, could this be the backcourt of the future? Also, who would you be willing to give up for him?

Re: Dennis Schroder thoughts?
If he could shoot the 3 or play defense, or not have an attitude problem, it'd be something to think about.
I've never been that impressed with him.
But it's interesting to me that he calls out Indy as a destination. I don't think he'll be the last guy to do that. Remember what Trevor Booker had to say about why he joined the Pacers when other teams were calling? He had asked around and the answer he got was Indy had the best locker room in the league. Couple that with a couple guys on the rise and ample cap space, and I think we might see a shift in the "no one wants to go to Indiana" narrative that gets shoved in our faces every year.

Re: Dennis Schroder thoughts?
Dude just finished year 1 of a 4-year contract. And he's making trade demands in the press?
Shot 29% from 3 last year, extremely ball dominant (~30% usage), 3 years $46.5m left on his contract, and described as "a polarizing locker-room presence"... sounds like a real catch.
I'd stay far away.

Re: Dennis Schroder thoughts?
if he is in fact friends with Vic, Pritchard's first call should be there. If Vic approves, I'd certainly offer Big Al in hopes that Atlanta is okay just clearing salary. we could exercise Joe Young's option and include him too if Atlanta needs a replacement point guard. I expect though that Atlanta is going to try and sell him on being a part of their rebuilding process,
EDIT just looked at a mock draft and Atlanta has 3 firsts and a high second. wonder how they'll fare in the lottery

Re: Dennis Schroder thoughts?
And oh, just to add the cherry on top, Schröder is facing a felony battery charge
https://www.myajc.com/sports/basketball/hawks-felony-charges-recommended-dennis-schroder-battery-case/4tIeajVBWsirRRMV965huM/
I don't care if he's Dipo's best bud. Dipo has friends all over the place anyway. Go sign another of his pals.

Agree that we should look into it, but only if Vic gives the okay. He seems to be completely team focused so if Schroeder isn’t a fit, even if they are friends, then Vic will absolutely say that.

We need a player that is a threat from the outside at point guard, otherwise, teams will sag off and make life infinitely more difficult for VO to drive.

Re: Dennis Schroder thoughts?
Get it done.
Dennis was a sophomore when the Hawks had a capable offensive team for the last season until today. (and no, Teague was still present when it collapsed)
His stats of the last 2 seasons are relative if you know how bad the Hawks were this season and if you know how much Dwight hurts your offensive schemes in todays smallball league.
Schroder plays with a chip on his shoulder, like Lance and yes, their lockerroom attitude (when Lance was younger) is also similar.
Schroder is just way better than Lance though.
Playing next to Dipo, he will automatically get more space to operate. His career 3% is 0.320 and 0.827 FT%.
Any time you can combine a creator like Collison with the defense of Joseph into 1 person, you got to do it.
Bad defense?
The Hawks have ranked 6th, 4th and 2nd defensively before last season (with a bottom league team).
I have watched games of Dennis that he actually plays lockdown defense. Not good, not great, lockdown.
Schroder can defend, if he wants it and if you don't need him to carry all your offense.
We all like to mention how Darren Collison had his best season ever, KP can't shut up about it, but when looking for reasons why, few come up with Victor Oladipo being a big reason why. Victor drawing all that defensive attention helped Darren shine brighter.
Now compare Bazemore, Korver, Hardaway, Sefolosha and whoever they had this season with Oladipo and you know the same thing might happen to Schroder.
When Collison plays, we are vulnerable defensively. When Joseph plays, we are vulnerable offensively.
Unless Turner is on the table, players like Dennis are rare to get.
Honeymoon season is over. All teams will try to improve their team and some will succeed. Keeping the entire core together is honorable, but will not improve the team/starting 5 enough unless Myles Turner turns into LMA.
When Dennis starts making fun of players banging other players wives, the Pacers have the experience to handle it, because they did it before. If Dennis and Lance go at eachother, trade the player who hurts your team more than he helps. Problem solved.
It's a 3 in 1 here, the passing of Collison, the defense of Joseph and the fearlessness of Lance. Multiple times I have seen Schroder trash talking to his opponents and getting under their skin. It's double fun when the player actually produces some good stats.
Close with Vic? Another pro.
Asking for a trade from a terrible team that isn't going to win anything in the next 5 years? Definete pro.
Dude just really really wants to win games. When you watch him play, hear him talk, it seems like a given that he cares.
But so far my excitement about a player wanting to be traded to the Pacers.
With the team we already have, there have to be others, so got to explore all options first. Dennis is somewhere on top of my list though. Right age, right stats and right personality.

Re: Dennis Schroder thoughts?
Did you guys that still want him after winter_mute_13's post even bother to read about the battery charges he faces? Not to mention the comments about being a locker room problem? Especially after KP's interview about the type of players he would be looking for?
Unreal.

Re: Dennis Schroder thoughts?
No thanks.
Doesn't defend well, doesn't have a 3pt shot.
Only positives I see are good length 6'-7" wingspan, and is a guy that can create his own shot. These few attributes don't overlook the negatives he brings.
From the articles above the dude doesn't seem to fit our team's culture, double no thanks..

Re: Dennis Schroder thoughts?
If this were fantasy basketball or something like that I would say heck yeah. Because he probably is an upgrade. When you add in he needs the ball in his hand and can't shoot the 3, and has a chitty attitude then ummm yeah no thanks. Just because you think he is better than what we currently have, doesn't mean it will make us a better team. Fans often forget about fits and intangibles. I don't think Schroeder is either of those things.

HA! You think the average 7 year old is better than Collison. Never seen such an intense dislike for a player who contributes as much as DC does.

Schroeder is German and Vorda is consistently in favor of European players. I'd say irrationally so, but he's seen them play and I haven't and I've seen Amercian college players more than he has so maybe neither of us have a good basis of comparison.

Re: Dennis Schroder thoughts?
I just think that Schroder is worth looking into at least. I think he struggled at times this past season because he was literally the only scoring threat on the court most games. His numbers were much better the prior season, because he didn't have to do it all. I keep thinking about the 2017 playoffs. He put up insane numbers in 6 games vs the Wizards. That was with John Wall and Brad Beal guarding him. I went back to look up the stats from that series:
24.7ppg
7.7 assists per game (1.6 TO)
84% FT
42.5% 3p (17-40)
I think him and Vic could really help each other out. You can't leave Schroder alone because he can flat out score. You can't leave Vic alone because he can flat out score. I know there are concerns about this pending battery charge- and the Pacers would need to look into that before considering anything. But, I am not worried about that culture-wise. I mean Lance pushed his pregnant girlfriend down a flight of stairs and he fits in just fine...
Once again, I'm not 100% sold on this and a trade would obviously need to make a ton of sense. Just think it's at least worth looking into...

Re: Dennis Schroder thoughts?
Schroeder is only debatably an upgrade to DC, and if he is one, it's a very small margin.
I'd be interested, but it better be cheap.

Re: Dennis Schroder thoughts?
would he add more than the guards that should be available at 23 playing behind DC? I doubt it but I like the Villanova guards.
