Suns looking nice

Post#1 » by Lou Fan » Fri Jun 22, 2018 5:35 am

Suns got some really nice young pieces. Booker is an all star and a great shooter. Ayton should be a stud. Josh Jackson showed flashes and I think he will develop into an Igoudala type player. Bridges is an awesome 3 and D guy. Okobo is the steal of the draft in my opinion he shouldve gone in the late teens. One of there other young players on their roster (Payton, Chriss, Warren, Bender) should pan out. They have a really nice young core and have one of the best 5 year outlooks in the league.
Thoughts?

Well they have sucked for quite a while so hopefully they have some picks that turn out good to show for it. They haven't made the playoffs in almost a decade...

They have amazing talent and if everyone pans out, they have an amazing young core to built around.

They still have to prove a lot though:

Can they properly develop their players?
Can they play defense?
Their defense does not look that good, can they defend individually (Booker and Ayton are big questionmarks), and can they defend as a team? Their interior defense and perimeter defense is highly questionable. If Ayton can't defend, it is very hard to see how they can win (even an amazing offensive talent like KAT has huge concerns regarding his ability to defend well enough to be a net positive in tough games).

In my opinion it mostly depends on how well Ayton is able to defend. Is he good enough to stay on the floor against their competitors without being a weakness for which you can gameplan, they are promising. Their salary structure, location and talent should attract high-end free-agents to fill their potential weaknesses and if they can create a winning culture on the way, they should be a contender at last in 3-4 years.

They had a 48 win season in 2013-2014 and still missed the playoffs. They kinda started to get out of their rebuild post-Nash around then when they had Dragic and Bledsoe, but then did a reboot of the reboot.

They've got some nice pieces, but those pieces have to develop. Not sold on Jackson yet, but the potential is there. Booker is awesome, but needs to show he can be the just as good on a winning team, I'm concerned he's a great stats on a bad team guy right now. Payton showed some really good flashes at the end of the season. The rookies look good, but hope springs eternal with rookies who haven't played any NBA basketball.

It's still gonna probably take that team a year or two before they're able to put it together, I suspect they'll surprise some teams this year though, maybe be a mid-30's win team and pushing for a PO spot the year after.

Everything?...

I don't know about going that far, but having stability in the HC position is really really important for such a young team. Constantly rotating in and out coaches is tough for young teams.
