Free agents will flock to us

Post#1 » by Spud2nique » Fri Jun 22, 2018 7:03 pm

Just want to say that adding Trae is huge. In 2020, everyone will want to play with him. All free agents. Book it!

I was thinking the same thing. Look it’s easy to brush off the Atlanta rapper endorsements, but if Trae actually succeeds, in addition to the popularity of these rappers, that means we sell tickets which makes our fanbase look much more attractive to play in front of. Couple that with the general growing popularity of Atlanta in pop culture and we may finally become a big market team. We then sign Lebron at 40 years old and make a run for the title.

Opening night and Mavs visit to Atlanta should both be easy sellouts.

(And must watch TV?)

Marketable players can bring in free agents. Trae is the only Hawk Ive ever seen in a nationally televised commercial since Dikembe was on a NBA Live commercial in 98, before that Nique had a reebok commercial in 94, Trae, Ayton, and Bagley were the only players that scored shoe deals before draft night. Its a good look for Atlanta.

I agree that the Hawks rise or demise will be televised (bars). Could be argued that that's better than to toil in obscurity even while notching a 60 win season but some Hawks fans worry about extra scrutiny and others are comfortable with the underdog/us-against-the-world narrative.

Either way, Trae was the prominent ESPN posterboy over the past college season. Throw in the story line where he's forever tied to Doncic and that's an extended national profile. With his personality and style of play he will deliver fans both within the biz and out despite whatever the results may be.

Same. You have a kid who's going from living in Norman, Oklahoma for most of his life to suddenly being given millions of dollars and becoming one of the premier sports celebrities in Atlanta. That transition is one of the most difficult hurdles he'll have to overcome.

But if he does overcome it and he becomes a success, then I don't think anybody else in the NBA will have more fun.

This is probably my biggest concern regarding this kid. One year ago he wasn't even considered a first rounder. He was just some kid playing for a bad collegiate team.

Now, he's one of the most well known celebrity athletes in recent Atlanta sports history. There are serious concerns. I saw Andruw Jones and Mike Vick fall victim to their own celebrity and hype...

here's hoping that Trae doesn't fall into those traps.

It’s amazing to me the guys that can keep it together. Hand me 100k at 19 and I’d be in jail. Over a million I’d prolly be dead by 21.

I'm sad to say, that applies to 19 year old Jamaal as well. I'm grateful that idiot kid grew up in an era before social media.

Man i can't even tell you how right you are about growing up before social media. Kids these days have it rough where every dumb thing you ever did follows you for life.

:D
Really? Trae has a national TV add that he's in? This just doesn't happen to Atlanta players. WOW! Way to go !!

About the night life, etc - - Look up, if you don't already know, what happened to Celtic's draft pick Len Bias. He was their first round pick, #2 for the year.
