Hornets Posters Draft Testaments

Post#1 » by JMAC3 » Fri Jun 22, 2018 9:06 pm

I think we should start to keep a historical thread for the posters who are here year in and year out. Especially for those guys who go deep into the draft talk.

Below I Have my guys I wanted predraft for each pick, who I would of taken at that pick in the moment and who we actually picked.

We can start this moving forward from here but I think it would be cool to have a written log of which guy the poster would of selected if he had the choice. No Trades allowed.

This may be a lot of work for the mods- but seems cool to have this as a pinned thread year around. This first thread may be a bit cluttered with random posts with people not understanding the concept or just basic chatter. Once we have it kind of sorted out- can we clean it up and lock it until next years draft?

If you’re going to do previous years then be honest!!!

Structure: Year: Pick- who I wanted predraft- who I would of drafted at that pick once the board had run out- who we actually took. (Again no trade ups or down)

2011:
Pick 7- Kemba-Kemba-Biyombo
Pick 9- Klay-Klay-Kemba

2012:
Pick 2- Beal-Beal-MKG

2013:
Pick 4- Oladipo-Len-Zeller

2014:
Pick 9- Marcus Smart- James Young- Noah Vonleh

2015:
Pick 9- Stanley Johnson- Devin Booker- Frank Kaminksy

2016:
Pick 22- Deandre Bembry- Dejounte Murray- traded for Marco

2017:
Pick 11- Kevin Knox- Lonnie Walker-Miles Bridges

I think if I’m being honest I did okay. Picking Len over Zeller and James Young over Vonleh wouldn’t of killed us but it would of been bad picks haha.

Please read the rules before posting!!!!!!!!!

I'll leave out who I wanted if they weren't available.

2011:
Pick 7 - don't remember who I wanted (other than Kanter, maybe Thompson), got Biyombo
Pick 9: wanted Kemba, got Kemba

2012:
Pick 2: wanted Beal, got MKG

2013:
Pick 4: wanted Nerlens, got Zeller (was my second choice)

2014:
Pick 9: wanted Dougie, got Vonleh
Pick 24 or whatever: wanted PJ, got PJ (turned out great)

2015:
Pick 9: wanted Justise, got Frank

2016:
Pick 25: wanted someone, got no one

2017:
Pick 11: wanted Monk, got Monk

2018:
Pick 11: wanted SGA, got Bridges

Frankly I don't remember 100% each of these years, and there were many years where it was the same guy for all 3 of your categories, so I'm just listing the name once in those cases.

2011:
Pick 7- don’t remember
Pick 9- don’t remember

2012:
Pick 2- Thomas Robinson (what a freaking disaster this would have been)

2013:
Pick 4- Nerlens Noel

2014:
Pick 9- Stauskas - McDermott - Noah Vonleh (I'm not looking great here either)

2015:
Pick 9- Justise Winslow (but really wanted the Boston trade - even the bad versions of it)

2016:
Pick 22- Malcom Brogdon (but did not feel strongly about it at the time)

2017:
Pick 11 – Donovan Mitchell – Mitchell - Monk

2018:
Pick 11- Miles Bridges (would have been happy with Bridges, Carter, or SGA)
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

2011:
Pick 7: wanted Biyombo, got Biyombo.
Pick 9: wanted Kawai, Klay, Kemba, Morris twins, got Kemba.

2012:
Pick 2: wanted TRob, Beal, Barnes or Drummond. Got MKG.

2013:
Pick 4: wanted Zeller, got Zeller.

2014:
Pick 9: wanted Stauskas, Dougie, got Vonleh. I remember liking Dario as well but he wasn’t coming over or something like that.
Pick 24 wanted Hood, got PJ.

2015:
Pick 9: wanted Stanley, Frank, Booker, got Frank.

2016:
Pick 25:

2017:
Pick 11: wanted Monk, got Monk
Was
2018:
Pick 11: wanted SGA or Bridges, got Bridges

Best I could do off of memory. Definitely some bad busts in Biyombo, TRob, & Stauskas. I remember hearing about the famous chair workout for Biyombo and just trusting in Cho anyway cause he was new and it was his guy. SMH.

Lol whoops sorry. I didn’t follow your structure. I just listed guys in the order I remember best and put “or”between them if I could go either way.

people always bend the truth on these revisionist threads. Everyone says they wanted Beal, Drummond, Klay, Kawhi, Mitchell, Booker etc... But so far I see some honest posts

2011:
Pick 7: wanted Biyombo, got Biyombo. (Cho really sold us on him)
Pick 9: wanted Klay, Burks, Leonard, Singleton (ouch), got Kemba. (just really wanted a wing)

2012:
Pick 2: wanted MKG (was OK with Beal and ThoR - ouch), got MKG.

2013:
Pick 4: wanted Zeller (hated all others in that range), got Zeller.

2014:
Pick 9: wanted Dougie (ouch),(and Vonleh when he dropped) got Vonleh.
Pick 24 didn't really care at that point, maybe shabazz, was OK w/ PJ

2015:
Pick 9: wanted Booker or Stanley, got Frank. (thought Winslow was overrated, but was happy w/ taking him at 9, was OK with Frank)

2016:
Pick 25: wanted TWC(ouch), Bembry, Skal, Murray or Brogdon

2017:
Pick 11: wanted Mitchell, got Monk (and was thrilled he fell, would have taken him over Mitchell, was also OK with Kennard)
Was
2018:
Pick 11: wanted Sexton, Miles or SGA, Mikal, Knox, got Miles

Seems I'm as bad as Cho at this

2011: I wanted Biyombo and Kemba, got both

2012: Wanted MKG, got him as well

2013: Extremely wanted Nerlens, was pissed we passed on him. Turns out I was wrong. Got Zeller

2014: Wanted McDermott, got Vonleh but was thrilled he dropped.

2015: Was extremely pissed we passed on Winslow. Anyone can read that thread and a lot of us were pissed. Got Frank. Frank is techincally a better player so cool beans but we missed on better players shortly after.

2016: What a travesty and buzz kill draft but I wanted Korkmaz or Luwawu. Got Belinelli. Both appear to suck so whatever

2017: Not one of us didn't want Monk. We were shocked he was still there.

2018: I wanted Sexton, Bridges, or Bridges. Didn't like Knox or SGA. Porter would be a fine pick at 11 but I'd rather we pass based on medicals. Got Miles Bridges. We'll see how this turns out.

Going back further:

2004: I was at the draft party at the old Charlotte Colosseum and I remember everyone wanting Okafor, I was fine with him but was really hoping Orlando would take him so we could have Dwight. So a wash. I REALLY wanted Livingston when we had the 4th pick before the trade.

2005: Wanted Paul or Felton at 5, Gerald Green at 13. Was thrilled with Felton since Paul was gone, utter dismay at the May pick. I didn't think it was worth both picks to trade up to 3 to grab Paul. I thought Green or Granger would be great players, particularly Green.

2006: I was the board's champion on Adam Morrison and was praying we got him somehow all during draft day.

2007: I was on board with trading the pick for J-Rich. It's funny that we pushed for that trade and then it happened. They definitely read RealGM those last few weeks leading up to the draft. I also liked Noah and thought he would fit perfectly at PF.

2008: At the time of the pick, Brook Lopez. We couldn't believe he was still there. Huge letdown when DJ Augustin's name was called. Before the draft, I wanted Gallinari or Westbrook to fall. Didn't like any of the options at 9. Didn't even consider Augustin.

2009: Steph Curry, but he didn't fall. At this point I hated the damn Bobcats picking UNC players and I knew Hansbrough was an option for us so I was dreading the worst. I wasn't high on Terrance Williams like most the board was. I had lottery fatigue by this point.

2011: Wanted Knight and Klay. Was all in on adding shooting and getting away from the Crash-era all defense and no offense (we had a bottom-eight offense every season for 11 years after the expansion), so I had Kawhi Leonard on my DO NOT draft list LOL. I liked Kemba, but thought Knight had more upside. Totally hated the Biz pick.

2012: Wanted Beal. Again wanted shooting/offense. I don't think I had MKG in my top-7.

2013: Wanted McLemore, Oladipo, or Noel. I don't think I had Zeller in my top-10.

2014: I really liked Vonleh and PJ Hairston and was excited with our draft outcome for once.

2015: Really liked Winslow and could not believe he fell to us. Hated Frank, I don't think I had him in my top-20. This was my: why even bother moment

2016: Didn't care about this draft.

2017: Liked Mitchell, but I LOVED Monk.

2018: Wanted to swing for the fences with Porter, fine with Miles.

Have disagreed with most of our picks. Definitely had some misses, but man... it would have been bonkers had we started off with Beal and Klay on the wings.

2011 I wanted Knight and Thompson
2012 I was thrilled we landed MKG
2013 Zeller was my dude
2014 Gary Harris
2015 Winslow.
2016 Rodney Hood
2017 Luke Kennard
2018 Michael Porter Jr, but extremely happy with Miles

2009: Terrence Williams, Henderson, Blair

2011: 7-Kemba, Kawhi,Klay 9-Kawhi,Klay,Burke (Wanted to stay far away from Biz and Tristan Thompson

2012: Beal,Robinson, Drummond (Wanted to stay away from MKG)

2013: Bennet, Mclemore, Dipo (Wanted to stay away from Porter)

2014: Lavine, Mcdermott, Staukus (Wanted to stay away from Gary Harris)

2015:Booker, Payne, Winslow (Wanted to stay away from Frank and Turner)

Didn't follow 2016 or 2017 drafts

2018: SGA, Porter, Okobo (Wanted to stay away from Miles Bridges)

As you can see I got my heart broken by Hornets draft picks many times. Only time they got a guy I wanted was Kemba & Hendo (who else would we have picked in the 2009 draft?). Only time they didn't pick I guy I really didn't want was the odd year in 2013 and the Vonleh slip in 2014

Broken down version, don't remember all the ebbs and flows pre-draft but know who I wanted when we were on the clock at each pick.

2011: Kawhi; Kemba
2012: Beal
2013: Noel
2014: Vonleh; Napier
2015: Winslow
2016: Skal*
2017: Monk
2018: Miles

*2016 is tough since we traded the pick prior to the draft, but I would've gone with Skal. That was the most bonkers draft I've ever seen, Skal and Deyonta fell to 28 end 31 while Maker and Papagiannis slipped into the lottery.

I actually considered creating this thread today lol. Cool thread.

WANTED - NOBODY

2016

2017
WANTED - MONK | GOT - MONK
WANTED - CALEB SWANAGAN, FRANK JACKSON | GOT - DWAYNE BACON

2018
WANTED - ZHAIRE, WATANABE | GOT - MILES BRIDGES
WANTED - METU | GOT - GRAHAM

This was all to the best of my memory. I am about 95-100 percent sure of everything. I also wanted Adam Morrison/brandon roy
but didn't want to go back that far lol. I wanted Felton and May. I wanted HENDO. I also wanted KOBE and nearly died when he got
traded on draft day. Other players I truly wanted were Hubert Davis and Penny Hardaway. I put Turner after jerian grant
because Grant was who I wanted to trade for so I didn't remember if I would have taken grant that early but I remember
wanting him and I believe I wanted Turner but not that badly. I also am 90 percent sure I wanted Klay Thomp but not sure.

I think overall I did ok. I wanted to trade our pick and move back and select Jerian Grant and trade to boston for some picks I think they were offering. Mclemore pick got everyone lol.

I know there was some definite McLemore love around here. I wanted him early in the process but by the time the draft rolled around I was on Zeller. Even told my ticket rep when they were asking who I wanted the day before the draft. I think they were talking about Alex Lin but his foot was scaring me off.

Well, I've done this with my sig in terms of who I wanted with each pick going back at the time of each pick. I'll admit I was on the Benny Mac train. I also admit that I'm worse at this than Rich Cho was, but I was NOT worse than Rod Higgins. That guy...
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi
