Re: Rondo to start the season at PG
Ball needs to learn how to be a floor general... Few guys in the league are as good at that, especially with superstar talent, than Rondo... And Rondo was a lot like Ball early with the Celtics... He deferred a lot and got knocked for being too quiet.
Ball has the tools, he just needs a little refinement.
I think Ball needs to be connected to Rondo at the hip and learn as much as possible and maybe start taking over leading up to all star break.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Rondo start throughout the season and playoffs. Not sure if LeBron would trust a sophomore PG in the postseason

No big drama here, Lonzo is recovering from knee injury. We will be fine.

Thanks, Mike Trudell and hazy_01. “If there were a game tomorrow.” End thread.
But yeah, Rondo doesn’t take the back seat to anyone. He’s gonna claw himself stuck with the starters. Good luck getting the starting job back, Lonzo.

Luke Walton is going to have to answer to LeBron if rondo is balling and he sticks lonzo in the starting unit when lonzo's healthy.

Re: Rondo to start the season at PG
I'm not so sure this is about "recovering" and getting in shape. If he plays every night over 20 minutes then how is it about that? He could do that as a starter just as easily as coming off the bench. Actually, getting warm in the locker room each half and going straight to the game is better than sitting and getting cold for injuries. That's why you see the recovering guys riding the stationary bikes when they aren't in the game.
I think the demeanor of the leadership has changed from "develop" to "win". Ball will be a good player, I have no doubt, but I also believe that having a "known" is important to the FO. Ball will get his minutes and could take back the starting role at any time I'd guess. Rondo isn't a model of health either.
Starting isn't important.... finishing is.

That's a false narrative, starting matters.

I don't think so at all. When the game is on the line you want to finish a game. Starting is for recognition.

Then I'd question if you've ever played basketball in an organized fashion. From middle school on starting matters. Best 5 starts, you want to be recognized as the best. It's not one or the other it's starting and finishing. And please don't bring up Manu....

When I coached I told my players that getting a starting slot was an accomplishment however finishing the game should be their goal.... No, I didn't put my "best" 5 on the court at the same time. You're telling me Manu was not as good as any SA starter over his career?.... he'll be in the HOF. He didn't start but he sure finished.

Re: Rondo to start the season at PG
It's pretty clear Lonzo is way behind physically at the moment. Once he gets his strength he'll be getting the normal playing time. His defense is too elite.

.... Played?... Check.... Coached for 22+ years (assistant at HS and 17 years as AAU head coach on DC area) Check. Gonna be coaching again this year in AAU in Phoenix. Come on over and I'll show you around.

Maybe we should bring LeBron off the bench?

Seriously, a lot of team start guys who aren't as talented or "good" as the guys on the bench. My namesake and Rambis were not nearly as good as McAdoo for example. Didn't we win a title with Odom coming off the bench? He finished the games and was 4th in minutes played.
You put players on the court who can bring you the best results and have complementary skillsets. You do the same when you create your rotations. Many games are won by crafting the second rotation and timing/match ups.
Quite frankly I'd question a players mental approach if he pouted about not starting and was in the lineup to finish close games.

Re: Rondo to start the season at PG
They need to split minutes, to me doesn't really matter who starts their games are very much the same, both are also injury prone so we need to be careful with minutes neither should be getting 30 + a game IMO
