2018/2019 NBA draft talk: Who should be our target? (Poll)

Post#1 » by PrimeThyme » Fri Oct 12, 2018 9:48 pm

I haven’t seen a draft thread and with College basketball starting I figured now would be a good time to make one and gauge everyone’s feelings about the upcoming class.

This is a very weak PG class, maybe a high riser like Jaylen hands will emerge this year like Young did last year, but right now this draft is very top heavy and filled with elite SG/forward talent at the top.

Right now Barrett and Langford are my clear favorites. Langford is a very gifted offensive talent, and has the 3pt shooting ability that this team desperately lacks. Barrett is a guy that would fit seamlessly next to Bamba and Isaac. He has incredible defensive instincts, an extremely high motor, and can shoot the 3 ball while offering point forward potential. He is going top 3 without a doubt tho but I still don’t think that top 3 is out of reach for us.

Just looking around the current NBA landscape I really don’t see hardly any tanking teams. Atlanta is the one obvious one but teams like Memphis, Dallas, Phx, Chicago, etc that competed with us for top 5 last year all have added veterans and look poised to be much more competitive this year. Sacramento is the other obvious one but they don’t even own their own pick so they have zero reason to tank and lose games. Brooklyn is arguably better than us and should be more competitive. If this season goes how I think it will, we will have a legitimate shot at top 5. I just don’t see much competition this year in the tank race.

I'm not going to vote yet because I lack the requisite knowledge to do so. The player I am most excited about watching this year though is Williamson. The shot is a project, but I expect that he will be a terrific offensive player nonetheless. His combination of size and athleticism is unprecedented and he has savvy and finesse with the ball in his hands.

I will be all in on him if he demonstrates the ability to consistently use his dribble to break down defenses and shows good effort at the defensive end and in transition.

Ja Morant got my vote as he is both the highest ranked PG prospect and is in a draft range the Magic is likely to select at.

Langford is going to be a really high riser on this board and will end up being one of the favorites here I think. We need a stud on offense and he is very gifted on that end. I can’t wait to watch him this year.

Best player available that isn't a big basically.

This team needs ball handlers and wings, specifically guys who can create their own shot or create shots for others.

A point guard or a wing would be nice.

Too early to say, but the fact that there are 10 prospects of interest is a good sign.

I won’t vote until I get a better assessment of the prospects.

Based on nothing but recruiting and pre-season hype I say Barrett and Reddish are the dream list with Langford being a more likely guess.

The player The Magic select might not even have emerged yet.

A point guard or swingman is likely.

Orlando has needed playmakers and ballhandlers for three seasons now.

RJ Barrett is running away with this, and I wonder if Magic fans read the question, "Who is the perfect fit?"?

The Magic has no need for a forward. The only way Barrett looks good in Magic blue is if RealGMer's see him as a SG.

I do not. And thus, this is becoming a vote about the best player, which is not the question asked.

i) Orlando must get better at PG.
ii) Orlando will soon move on from Fournier and will likely get a Max-free agent at this slot,.

Together, Orlando is best suited to draft the BPA-PG.
