Fanbase approval rating: GM Travis Schlenck

Post#1 » by tbhawksfan1 » Sat Dec 15, 2018 6:50 pm

General board post by Lebron Stopper is too good if you haven't seen it. Guy asks; "Who's Travis Sclenk" (worst GM thread). Lebron Stopper posts a photoshopped pic of Trae with Schlecks dome. You got to see it

Yeah, I'm not interested in doctored up photos. I'm interested in whether Schlenk is good as his job. The fact that he chose to tank shows me that he is not good at his job, no matter how good he is at evaluating talent.

Bump; interesting that there is so little to say about our fearless leader. Almost taboo....

I would love to see a thread stickied (?) where we regroup all of Schlenk's moves and can centralize discussion / evaluation

He is our GM

LOL

I doubt we'd sticky a thread that only two people post in. I'll make sure it doesn't get lost in the archives though.

The biggest takeaway: After only a year and a half, it's still too early to judge Schlenk's overall performance.

The direction he's taken us is painful, but necessary. The specific moves along the way have been uneven and frustrating. But we're still only looking at a partial attempt at building through the draft. With another top-5 selection and looming cap space to use, next summer I believe we can offer a more thorough evaluation of where we're headed.

I'll submit my preliminary grade in August 2019.

Not this one. I sabatoged my own thread by posting the bald Trae link. But a well organised, updated listing of TS's moves / nonmoves with comments would be cool

No. Difer FINAL judgement, but watch and critique every move, all the time. Leaders must be held accountable. It's not a privilidge, but a responsibility.

Should we really wait three years to discuss / debate the moves... absurd. TS might be gone before Trae ever becomes a top 10 PG

I'm with you there.

I question passing on Doncic.

But trading down and still getting the guy you rate highest...plus a (likely) future lottery pick. I see that as a bold, savvy gamble.

So far Schlenk deserving gets killed for doing the Doncic/Trae trade. Doncic is doing things that hasnt been done since Rookie LBJ, while Trae has been dreadful overall. Time will tell of course how the trade will totally pan out, but atm Schlenk is deep in the hole just from that one move.

He still has alot of pieces to move around though, if he can salvage the situation by moving those pieces out for more future assets (Dedmon, Lin, Baze, Prince, Bembry) or other young players that fit better with whatever future vision he has, he can move up on the GM rating.

His career will be defined by the Trae/Doncic trade, and so far the returns don't look promising. Maybe if he lucks out and gets Zion then all will be well.

A month later, where do stand now on Schlenk's approval rating.

His top draftees are looking damn good.

As is his coaching hire.

A++, best GM in Atlanta Hawks history. No one is close to this good. Is he realistic the best? Not close right now but I am using foresight.

You can ask and say, could he have drafted and kept Luka. As things stand, I am very happy with our core. How we add to it and build around it is key.

Things are looking pretty good. Heurt especially, but Trae showing that he's perfectly willing to be a pass first PG is big. Collins...wow.
If he can get a decent SRP for Lin, I might have to give TS some love if this keeps up.

I also hope he doesn't rush the rebuild. Keep bringing in nice picks and develop in the draft and on the court. The time to talk about impact FAs and playoff runs is still a year or two away.

Still want to see Lin, Ded and Baze traded. Max the rebuild with TWO more drafts and then a fast ascention to the top of the East

So far most of his moves have been positive. Collins and Huerter were outstanding values where there picked. The Trae/Doncic trade so far looks like a mistake in my opinion. Not so much because of Trae, who has promise and upside despite some tough metrics, but because Doncic appears to be a generational talent. But even still, we have to see who we get with the extra pick before fully evaluating the trade.

A-

Trae is a stud.

Huerter is a stud.

Omari should be a rotational player

The Doncic trade will make us a crazy deep team in 3 years...scary good.

*Grades may change after trade deadline. He’s got some work to do.
