Alternative approaches to building a winning team?
How about hiring a college coach who's used to one-and-done and yet they still thrive with success every year.
Their team is in the top five every year.
Then we grab young kids with promise.
Turn them into winners.
Flip them for high draft picks, turn them into winners.
Rinse and repeat year after year.
Every year we're good enough to do some damage in the playoffs.
Some years we're good enough to go all the way.
It works for some College coaches.
I don't know that anyone has ever tried it in the NBA before.
Use the big money contracts by dumbing them down to multiple 50% level contracts on high quality vets who are great off the bench.
Nobody on the team except for rookies would make less than $4 million a year.
Nobody would make more than 8 million a year.

These perennially successful College coaches are getting top prospects every year, we aren't. Good thinking though.

Not at first.
But within a couple/three years, we'd be at a point where we're flipping our top young guys for 2-3 first rounders a year.
Kind of about how many 1st round players Duke is about to release upon the NBA this summer.

The NBPA would probably hate us but...
,,,on the flip side, the quality bench playing vets/teachers would be making slightly more than usual so we could meet the cap requirements.

Rick Pitino seems certain to be a NBA coach next year.

Doc Rivers did it here and with LAC, we’d need Billy Beane as GM

At first I was with Duradero and thinking that it would require a lot of 5-star recruiting and it wouldn't work, but yes, if we have 2-3 1st round picks + some 2nd round picks it seems doable.
PG is a really difficult position to pickup in the 1st year, but let's say we have your strategy + a veteran star at PG, it's another idea to your rebuilding/winning strategy. This way we can have a PG that will be able to maximize the rookies potential, control tempo, etc.

So basically the ideal would be lifting the entire staff, from coach to scouts, of a team like Duke and implanting them into the franchise?
Interesting.

College competition is flat out bad. Most of "great college coaches" are not really that great, just have top prospects to work with every year.
Look at Duke, their roster today is equivalent for Warriors and in BB one star makes all difference in the world, let alone 2,3...
