What are your expectations for Fultz

Post#1 » by BadHombre » Fri Feb 8, 2019 9:46 pm

I figured it's worth asking this now, so everyone can be transparent with what they're expecting from Fultz.

But I want to delineate the difference between expecting and hope. You can expect him to be a capable starting player whilst also hoping he becomes more. Expectations are the intent you build around, hope is something extra on the side if it ever materialises.

I’m expecting an above average starter if he’s at all capable of putting it together. This is the ultimate low risk/ high reward play and could benefit Orlando greatly in the long run for what they gave up. Easily the best move WeHam have made this far and probably will make.

I expect management to take the long approach and really dig into Fultz core issues and create a plan from there. He will not be relied on at all and dont expect him to come into his own until late next season.

I have rather high expectations for the long game, but do not think they will be fulfilled anytime soon which is perfectly okay. Markelle in every sense is a long term project and if done correctly we could have an above average starter/fringe star.

This is a long road for him which begins with mental health then gaining confidence from there, so many variables play a factor and so hard to determine what he'll be ultimately.

So as of now my short term expectations of him are similar to Bamba, I'm treating him as a rookie and fully expect him to have growing pains. Initially just show me 15-20m of good effort off the bench displaying some flashes of how good he can be and Im content.

I expect a "above average starter" if he plays again. Not sure if he will be able to get his shot back, but he plays D, has playmaking skills and knows how to go inside and draw fouls, so that's an "above average starter" to me.

I hope he plays this season and then begin to start at PG by the end of next season, that would be great in my POV.

Once he plays I expect 10 PPG, 3 RPG, 5 Assists, 1 steal per game, 1 block game, 40% field goal shooter, 85% free throw shooter in 30+ minutes played.

I hope for 20 PPG, 6 RPG, 8 assists, 2 steals per game, 2 blocks per game, 45% field goal shooter, 85% free throw shooter in 30+ minutes played and becomes top 15 PG in the NBA.

I'm sort of along these lines.

I look at Fultz like a lottery ticket. i dont expect to win, but if i do it will be a very nice win.

If he's able to put it all together all-star/star quality player. If not... an above average starter/strong 6th man at the worst..

Its hit or miss with Fultz. I dont expect him to be a star or what he used tobe in college. The TOS diagnosis and mental health issues I think crushed that part. He is still a strong, athletic guard with some NBA skills that can help a team. He can pass, run the floor, rebound, and play decent defense on PG and SG. For this season(if he plays) and next. I see him as a bench contributor going up against other teams bench units and building confidence, durability and endurance. Long term he could be our starting PG but all depends on his health and how he matures. Alot of questions about Fultz. It was a gamble by the FO. But for what we gave up, you cant pass it up.

Capable starter.

If he shows that within the first year or two, then I may have heightened expectations.

I'd like to see him on the floor first before I set long-term expectations.

I’m going to temper my expectations with Fultz. I expect nothing this year. He just needs to get healthy, whatever is ailments are. We really need to expect a year from now to show us what he’ll be.

With that said, the talent is there. He just needs to get that shot back and get his mind ready to play. I’m hopeful we get a long term good starting guard. Anything else beyond that would be franchise changing. I’m not expecting Russell Westbrook out of him.

The thing that concerns me is this franchises lack of a strong leader. A presence that can take Markelle under his wing.Weltmans a light weight, Clifford is a coach so his influence on the floor is limited. We need a guy who can be a supportive ally but a player to show him discipline. A Kevin Garnett type. Grant Hill would have been great in this situation. My hope is maybe DJ Augustine and Terence Ross take up the role. This team still needs an on court leader badly.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

I have very low expectations for him. People are only going to see he was drafted #1 overall and he will most likely not live up to that hype.
May I see some documentation on that please?

I’m expecting a capable starter out of him. That would put him on a spectrum from Reggie Jackson, Darren Collison through to Bledsoe (I don’t rate Bledsoe all that high).

Nothing world beating, but not a weakness for the team.

But if he reaches that point sooner I’m sure I won’t be able to control my expectations from sliding up.

Not too many players his size, with his handle. He actually has James Harden or D'Angelo Russell type size and handle.

I think he can be at least a very good starter.

My only expectation for him right now is for him to get his health right. He can take as much time as he needs. When he is ready to come back though I expect him to come back and defend and run the offense at a high level. He has so much natural ability as a playmaker and as a defender that he should be able to come in and contribute in those areas right away.

I'm also going to expect him to be comfortable in the mid-range game. That was a huge staple of his in college and he has already been able to do a little bit of it during his short time in the NBA. I'm not expecting him to come back shooting 3's. In fact, to start, I'm actually anticipating a Ben Simmons situation where he doesn't take any so if I get more than that it will exceed my expectations.

Thats really what I'm expecting from him his first year here with our coaching staff and team. I'm not really interested in what his stat line or official place in the rotation will be. Eventually, I am expecting him to start shooting 3's and become an all-around solid-great starting point guard for us, but he has work to do before I start really getting my hopes up for that.

I put that he won't pan out. I want him to, I hope he does because he has had a bad beat and seems like a good person.

Until I see that he is a functioning human being, I can't expect he will play basketball for very long.
