D'Angelo Russell Cited For Marijuana Possession At LaGuardia Airport

D'Angelo Russell was cited at LaGuardia Airport for possession of marijuana in his checked baggage.

Russell was questioned by police after a routine search flagged what initially appeared to be a can of Arizona Iced Tea. The can had a hidden compartment where marijuana was discovered.

An NBA player would be required to enter the league's marijuana program if the player "has been convicted of (including a plea of guilty, no contest or nolo contendere to) the use or possession of marijuana in violation of the law," according to the current collective bargaining agreement. There's no suspension until the third violation of the marijuana policy.

Russell will be a restricted free agent this offseason.

As a pot smoker I'm not going to slam him for wanting to smoke. But what an idiot taking an illegal substance into an airport and trying to smuggle it. Great way to kick off your offseason and show the 30 employers in the league how far you've matured.

This is just so awesomely dumb on so many levels. Smuggling drugs on a plane is obviously stupid enough. Trying to do it by packing them in a giant can that will certainly draw scrutiny in an xray machine is extra stupid. Picking a can that absolutely nobody would ever pack in their luggage is just next level stupid. Did he think it was going to blend in with all the tea other people were packing?

Boy cost himself some millions. If I'm the nets I'm not offering him the 5 year Devin Booker $158M. I will just let him go get an offer sheet that I can match regardless of money or term - similar to what Rockets did with Clint Capela. D'Angelo is still a headcase and nets maybe better off if he signs his 1 year Qualifying offer and leaves as an rfa in the 2020 summer. You should not be enabling junkies with hundred million dollar contracts.
