Scott Perry: Knicks Are Going To 'Add Some Talent' This Summer

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue May 14, 2019 5:58 am

Scott Perry made no promises on who the New York Knicks were going to sign this summer, only that they were focused on improving their team.

"We're going to play the hand we're dealt...Sometimes in free agency, guys may decide to stay where they're at. Whatever happens, we know we're going to add some talent to the roster this summer. And we think we'll have a better basketball team next year. How much better obviously will depend on the level of free agent that we're able to attract and how much we've improved internally with our young players from this past season," said Perry.

Perry added that he's looking for veteran players who can add to their young roster and be part of the Knicks' championship core.

"We're looking to add some talented players that fit into our culture, guys who are committed to building a championship contender in New York. Competitive guys who understand what it takes to win at this level. We have a good young core of players but we feel that we're going to need to add some veteran players who have been through the wars if you will, who understand the winning, like we talked about."

I was going to make a joke about how is this different than any other team's ultimate goal during any other offseason but then I realized the Knicks adding talent actually would be different.

KNicks are interested in 2 top free agents.
Along with a top 5 pick they will be busy this offseason improving.

Culture? What culture? A culture of tanking?

Obviously I hope it's Kawhi+1 and AD via trade.

the knicks do not have a culture of tanking, not outside of this year. the knicks can't even lose correctly, consistently.

That's what Magic said 2 summers ago. They got KCP! Then they let Brook Lopez walk and retained KCP this season.

People trying to diss the culture is ignorant and living in the past. Get with the present.

Well Phil Jackson was supposed to change the culture and that clearly didn’t happen, instead Phil tarnished his own image and legacy.

The problem with claiming the culture in NY has changed is the same reason why most people have recognized a problem for about 20 years now. James Dolan. And he’s still there meddling from the top. Also claiming the culture has changed in May 2019 after a 20 win season during which the teams best young player since Patrick Ewing wanted out, and was subsequently traded in February, seems more like wishful thinking than reality. Assuming you want people to get with the present.

Apparently you must work very closely to him with this kind of first hand knowledge. I only have google.

He went on ESPN radio in March after KP was traded defending the move.

https://www.theringer.com/nba/2019/3/14/18265055/james-dolan-new-york-knicks-kyrie-durant

Banned a fan for yelling ‘sell the team’ that same month.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/11/sports/dolan-knicks-sell.html

Also made comments about having personal knowledge of 2019 free agents intentions this coming summer.

https://www.sny.tv/knicks/news/james-dolan-says-he-knows-free-agents-want-to-play-for-knicks/305134740

This opinion piece certainly doesn’t support your feelings on this issue

https://theshadowleague.com/james-dolan-is-sabotaging-the-knicks-2019-free-agency/

He certainly makes a lot of comments about the team. and creates negative headlines for an absentee owner

There’s no inside source. He has no control of the front office and moves this is nothing new. He rather play with his band.

The argument is whether or not he is involved in the front office to screw up the Culture. The answer is no.

Well what’s your inside source that he has absolutely nothing to do with the team anymore? I’ve got an interview on ESPN radio with him doing the talking. I’ve got fans getting banned from the garden during games he’s attending because he got his feelings hurt by their comments. His best young player was traded after refusing to commit to the team. Sorry but none of these made up events.

You can’t just tell everyone that things have changed and that makes it so. As long as Dolan is owner, the culture with the Knicks will never be what it should. It always starts at the top. Like the saying goes, fish stink from the head down.

Well they only have 8 players under contract for next season so the rules of the league kinda force them to add some players, yeah.

Why didn't they add some talent last summer? Or the summer before that? Or...

They could add players with negative value, like Carmelo Anthony.

We didn't have capspace. Summer before that we had about 16 mil that we spent on Tim Hardaway Jr.
Go Knicks!
