DeMarcus Cousins

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Wed Jul 3, 2019 12:24 pm

Should the Hawks go after him on a team friendly, short term deal?

DC has a fall from grace, him coming to ATL could be the beginning of the end or a resurgence, but ATL could give DC starter minutes, pad his stats and could be trade bait come Feb.

“There’s not a market for him,” Wojnarowski said. “I think he hoped a big-market team would strike out, have cap space — he could get a one-year, $12, $15 $18, $20 million dollar deal. That’s not happening.

“The mid-level exception he got in Golden State last year? I don’t think that’s there for him.”

This is kinda like how Kentucky, Duke, UNC all cheat in basketball recruiting but the NCAA punishes Cleveland State instead of going after them.

The league probably wants to punish GSW for 'super-team'-ness but they can't get at Curry and them. Punishing Cousins as a consolation prize.

I'm only partially joking. I recall Cousins was kinda smug when he signed with them last season. Kinda like, "Ah-ha I'mma win a 'ship, suckas". I think he overplayed his hand assuming the market would open up for him.

Unfortunately he wasn't able to show he was fully back from his injuries. He actually looked overweight although he had some flashes of effectiveness.

At this point, considering how cheap he'd come, I don't think he'd be a bad signing for us necessarily. Somewhere like MIA, CHA should jump on him if they can.

I thought, all along, that he'd end up in LAL or LAC after Kawhi signed wherever. Nothing's changed in that regard.

^The fact that DMC's a complete and utter a** likely doesn't do him any favors either.

If Durant can get a 4 year -- max deal just 5 weeks after tearing his Achilles, i have to wonder why Cousins is struggling to find a fat one year deal 16 months after tearing his.

Well, comparing him to Durant isn't fair. One is in his prime and was arguably the best player in the world when he went down. He lacks the baggage Cousins has (fairly and unfairly) so he'll get the benefit of the doubt.

I'm not as down on Cousins as you seem to be though. I suspect, if he ended up here, you'd find a way to love him. Only Hawk player I couldn't find a way to root for was Laettner so maybe the hate is skrong within you too.

Isn't Cousins younger than Durant and also in his prime?

Both are all world NBAers who ran to GS to ride Curry's coattails to a title and are recovering from Achilles injuries.

Both, when healthy, are top-20 players in the world. It's a more apt comparison than you think.

PS I really want to say I'd root for DMC in a Hawks uni. But he's just so awful.

There's a reason he's still unemployed and is looking for his 4th team in 2 years.

I don't think DMC is a top 20 player anymore.

SAC karma ?

same story than Thomas. Both with great season in SAC, then with another team (BOS and NOP), then injury at the end of the season while they both thought they would get a Max contract.

I will need to check, but despite the injury, or just before, I'm not sure if NOP didn't offer him an extension at 20M/year. If so, it would prove he had value.

It would be a perfect addition to try if it was 2020-21 or later, but at this moment, with young guys developing, it would be a nightmare. But if ATL was ready to contend now, it would be stupid to not try him, and I think other teams are in this situation. I would bet that POR will sign him, with Nurkic out, and DMC would be motivated to show GSW and NOP something

I was a big Boogie fan and think he's a really misunderstood guy, but at the same time I don't want him anywhere this team.

Fact is that he's an aging big man who was never the most athletic player, but his injury has sapped a lot of his quickness and conditioning. He doesn't fit on court with what we're trying to do, and his on-court demeanor is also an issue for a young and impressionable team.

More holistically, I don't want any part of the media focusing on our team as 'Boogie's redemption arc.' When we get attention it should be because we're building a young, fun, positive team behind Trae/JC and whatever other guys start showing up.

Arrest Warrant Issued for DeMarcus Cousins After Dispute With His Ex-girlfriend

After the release of a recording in which Cousins is said to have threatened his ex-girlfriend, Mobile, Alabama, police have brought the Lakers center up on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge

Image

On Thursday, police issued an arrest warrant for Los Angeles Lakers center DeMarcus Cousins on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge, according to a Mobile, Alabama, police spokesperson. The municipal records database for Mobile, where the warrant (first reported by USA Today) was issued, identifies the charge as third-degree harassing communications.

Under Alabama law, the crime of harassment is treated as a Class C misdemeanor, but when it occurs in the context of domestic violence, it is a Class A misdemeanor, which could result in up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $6,000 for a first offense.

After spending the first six years and a half years of his career in Sacramento, Cousins has been a member of three teams in the past three years, though he missed most of last season due to a torn Achilles. Cousins also suffered a torn left quad in the first round of last season’s playoffs and sat out until the NBA Finals.
