I'd rather have Jabari on a 2-year or 2+1 deal. That way, if he proves valuable, he is an asset to trade or cheap talent going forward.
But, what if Jabari were not to prove valuable? As has been the case so far, hence must be considered the most likely path forward. We see how much interest he has garnered as a FA.
I like Davis Bertans a lot. I was aware of him & liked him the year the Spurs took him in the draft (2011). He shot 8.5 3-pointers per 40 minutes this year & made 43% of them. 88.1% from the FT line.
Bertans has been a significantly better player than Jabari Parker. I.e. he is as likely or more likely to be tradable this year than Parker (unless of course we base it on Parker doing things he hasn't done in the past). He's 26; we may want to extend him.
Bertans has only one problem as a 4: rebounding. He's a below average defensive rebounder & a terrible offensive rebounder.
IMO, this is quite a good move.
