GT: Nets @ Pistons - 1/25/20, 7pm ET

Post#1 » by ecuhus1981 » Sat Jan 25, 2020 11:03 pm

This one will be weird.

ESPN and Vegas favor the hosts, while the moneyline somehow favors our visiting Nets. Blake has been ruled out for the season, but his absence (and Kyrie's presence) meant little in our earlier visit to Detroit. I would love to avenge one of our more embarrassing losses this season, but rather than focus on revenge, I hope the boys key in on cohesion and day-to-day improvement. Let's get into it:

ALLEN VS DRUMMOND - Recently upgraded to probable, I expect Andre to play.

PRINCE VS DOUMBOUYA - Taurean won't have too many easier matchups this season. Coming off of a respectable showing against AD, let's hope he figures out how to dominate the rookie. He needs to become obsessed with playing a clean offensive game: eliminate unnecessary dribbles, run off-ball, shoot open 3's, elevate to finish drives and limit turnovers. On D, be smart and stop helping off of your man.

HARRIS VS MYKHAILIUK - Sviatoslov should hope to one day become Joe, and Harris should "son" him in the worst way. he's GOT to start taking 3's when defenders close out on him. He seems to hate taking contact while shooting long-range, when that's the only way you're going to stop defenders from running recklessly at you. Also, he turns over the ball like crazy when he shot-fakes, either by traveling or passing frantically.

DINWIDDIE VS BROWN - It's like the Terminator, with one oversized playmaker Detroit drafted battling their former castaway. SD always has an extra gear of piss and vinegar for the Pistons, so I hope he harnesses it for a breakout game.

IRVING VS ROSE - this shouldn't be an even matchup. Somehow, Derrick has turned back the clock and looked amazing of the past 2 weeks. Meanwhile, Ky has looked very mortal since his initial return from injury. Whoever decides to defend tenaciously will win this matchup.

Our bench out-classes theirs, especially as short-handed as they are due to injuries (Griffin, Snell, Kennard, Jackson). The Nets' own injuries are no excuse in this game. Watch out for Christian Wood, I'm hoping that DJ can beat him up, and we could fight fire with fire if Nic is available.

Kenny, please fix the 4th. The Nets are the worst team in the league in that period, a stats that SCREAMS mismanagement. We can walk outta here with a sorely needed W if you'll just make the obvious late-game adjustments as they present themselves. I can't predict what those will be, every game is different. But it doesn't take a whole day to recognize sunshine.

PREDICTION: NETS 117, DETROIT 109

Pistons on the second of a back to back but drummond is back and is rested.

Dinwiddie isnt starting tonight, i assume it will be Temple, possibly levert. No Jordan hurts a bit tonight. Hopefully Kyrie's hammy is better, he was clearly a step slower than normal vs. the lakers.

If this was at home id predict a double-digit win. on the road and rested drummond with no backup C id say we win a closer one

I take serious offense to this. Like what is Kenny supposed to do? Shoot free throws for these guys? make the passes for these guys. He has the right rotation, he has our best guys in. He has tried to use smoke and mirrors defensively. at the end of the day our guys need to protect the ball and hit free throws. now that Kyrie is back, we have a late game shot maker, which should help.

otherwise, like what adjustment do you want him to make? take out giannis knees with a bat? throw a wrench at simmons? shoot a dart at lebron?

If any par tof 4th quarter issues is NOT on the players id put it on marks. no reason we dont have a defensive specilist on this roster. Why isnt shumpert a net right now?

Allen with some highlight reel blocks in the 1st quarter already. Joe needs to start making his open 3s at some point.

I have no expectations. Wouldn't shock me if we lose tonight.

Moving Spencer to the bench hopefully rejuvenates him a bit vs 2nd unit opponents. Prince needs to be benched too tbh

Caris, you're hitting 3's, defending responsibly and not turning over the ball. Do this for 3 more quarters, please.

Rodi out of the rotation. We should've traded him in the off-season when his value was OK. Total waste of a nice prospect. It's clear that Kenny isn't a fan of him.

No excuses for our bench to struggle against a Pistons bench unit consisting of G league players.

A sight for sore eyes! We never make defenders pay at the three-point line. They didn't give us the shot but at least they'll respect us.

Early returns are that Joe is unplayable tonight. I would limit his exposure now but stick with him in the 4th, he usually answers the bell in gutty late-game sequences.

Back to back awful early shots by Kyrie and Spencer.

This team is so low IQ. Detroit is going to win this game and it isn't because they have better players. The Nets play utterly stupid and they brick threes left and right. Tired of watching this, it's not even remotely fun

How anyone can say that this season isn't a disaster is beyond me. All of our young prospects regressed.

Joe hasn't been himself lately. Maybe playing injured?
He also looks like he put on a few pounds lol

Return to Brooklyn Nets
