2020 Offseason Speculation, free agency, summer trades (keep draft prospect talk in draft thread)

Lets talk free agency in 5 months and when our players will return from injury! How will Ayton do in the Rising Stars Game? How much will our young guys improve the rest of the season?

Can’t wait to hear Jones spin getting Ayton back from suspension as our big acquisition.

Isiah Thomas is not staying with the Clippers - should we take a look ? :D

As for the rest of the year - just want to get some players back post ASB to see how the team shows at full strength. Get some wins. I get the playoffs are out but would like to get over 30 wins this year.

I think a lot of it had to do with Ayton’s suspension. You had guys playing out of position and out of the roles (and way more minutes) they should have been playing. The trickle down effect has been massive.

I disagree.

Those injured players were playing around 18 to 26 minutes per game with Ayton out. And they played positions that have already played in the past...Kaminsky is not a C but he can play some minutes at C without problem. That would be another story if we would have asked him to play SG....but that's not the case.

And Jerome and Cam's bodies don't look ready to a full NBA season. And that's really bad because they are "old" rookies.

And we were 11-14 when Ayton was out and have been 9-16 since. Now part of that is all the injuries, especially the Baynes one, especially when both PFs were out too, but we are just playing worse...very bad perimeter D, can't close games....just go cold...and don't attempt enough 3s.

Cap space this summer is nice. But its a weak free agent class and the Suns are only like 5th in line for cap space.

My thought - now it had to be the right player - but using Tyler to get a contract would have allowed using the MLE since over the cap.

But as with every team I root for - I will hope for players to return post ASB. I want to see the team at full strength for 6-8 weeks to end the season. Get some damn wins.

And see what happens with the ping pong balls and free agency

As for teams to root for: RAptors and Jazz will be my teams - and anybody to beat the Lakers!!

At least no good teams have cap space, so if we want to keep Baynes as our backup, we might be able to. If someone offers him the MLE we can maybe give him one year beating that, unless someone offers multiple years.

What's more likely, signing a big name free agent this summer or trading booker this summer?

Players on the Suns and around the league don't live in shoe box tucked in a closet. They are all going to read how the Suns FO was either too cheap, scared or incompetent to make ANY move for a team again at the bottom the Western conference. Confidence building it is not.

I like the Jerami Grant idea. In spite of some of the metrics listed.

In Jones defense - having a healthy team post ASB would be nice. I mean, MOnty would be a better coach. We would see more wins!

If you like activity, the Colangelos were your guys. They were always making moves.

.... But this one time, they signed Gugliotta and Longley in the offseason, and then traded for oft-injured Penny Hardaway the following offseason. We spent the rest of their respective tenures trying to get out from under their bloated long-term contracts. Couldn't build, and couldn't re-build either. "The malaise" they called it.

I just hope we make better use of our cap space this year than we did in 2015, and better use of our draft picks than we did in 2016 and 2017.

And also mismanaged the finances so poorly and incurred so much debt that he was forced to sell... Which lead to Sarver...

I usually pull for Indy in the east. Can't really get excited about anyone else, but I've always liked Brogdon who they added, and of course TJ, so I think with Dipo back they will be really fun to watch.

In the west I usually default to Denver, because I like Jokic and the way they play. Memphis might be fun to pull for if they get into the playoffs, especially against the Lakers, but may not be a very long series.

Booker's the one who's not shooting threes. I don't blame him - he's very effective playing his game. But Oubre's shooting plenty - and making them often. Mikal is hot and cold. Ricky rarely takes them, and I can't fault him for it. Carter shoots them. Okobo only shoots when he has to. Diallo doesn't, obviously.

The bigger thing that I agree with you about is the defense. Team D has really, really slipped. I think at least some of it is fatigue. We're running our starters into the ground. What else are we supposed to do? But even healthy, our D isn't very good. Ayton and Bridges are doing everything they can just to keep us in the game on that end.

Booker D's up when he needs to, but he ain't done it for several games now. Unlike a month ago when he did this, it doesn't matter now, and I don't blame him. We need to be in these games, and he needs to get some rest, before he gives us his all on that end.

Being healthy wouldn't solve everything, but it's a fact that injuries are killing us right now.

That was bad. It took me from hope, to disappointment. I remember Vlade was cheap that summer, and I think the Kings signed him for 3/10 and we gave WAY more to Longley. And Googs was ok, but no McDyess. I also thought we should have kept or signed McDyess as a 3rd big early in the SSOL era, back when I thought we should draft Iguodala and wished we had extended JJ and not signed Q.

Hopefully we go hard at either Jrue or Dame this summer.

I'd also look at Blake now that he only has 2 years left, but I'm not confident we can keep him healthy with our new sucky training staff.

DLo is better than what we have and also makes your superstar happy. Oh, and he was available for next to nothing from GSW.

Signing player's buddies, brothers or whatever has NEVER worked out for us. It ALWAYS backfires. Plus we don't need 2 max contracts for very similar players, though Russell plays much worse D and gets to the line less. Would help in 3 pt shooting though.

Man, I was around for those days. The hopelessness was worse than it is now, with Kobe and Shaq, and Timmy, ruling the west. It was impossible to see any way we would ever contend, based on where we were.

I'm here to tell you, the only thing that satisfies a fan base is contending for a championship. Get yourself stuck in a place where there's no feasible way to contend in the foreseeable future, and you won't be happy. Because you'll know that one way or another, you'll sink before you rise again.

I'm happier being where we are today than I was in 2001, pre-Amare. What a shot in the arm he was. That's what I love about the draft. The right selection can turn your franchise around in an instant.

Here is my take.

Get healthy.

Play Diallo more and build his confidence. Rotate the following

Rubio, TJ
Booker Cam
Oubre, Cam
Bridges , Diallo until Kaminsky gets back
Ayton, Baynes (He needs to get back)

I hear you re McDyess. Thought he would have been a great fit with the SSOL Suns.

2004-05 was my favorite year as a Suns fan. The future has never seemed so bright. That team could have won several championships.

if we are doing revisionist history I never understood making the trade the day before the draft when we didn't know who was on the clock. As Iggy was picked 9th - meaning he was still there when the Bulls took Deng at 7
