Hmm tough to say I love his game though he can get to the rim so easily seems almost impossible to stay in front of and he can shoot it good enough to keep the defense honest.

No real comp for him. I'll give you a list of attributes, and you can build a comp.

Pros:

Size (closest build comp I can think of is young Penny, who was a little taller but also scrawny and long)
Lights out shooting from mid (CP3/Cassell- his mentors)
Really creative finisher (reminds me of a longer D Rose with his finishes in traffic)
Amazing footwork in the post (guards of the 90's)
Great change of speed/tempo, deceleration (reminds me of Harden)
Super long strides (Giannis)

Cons:

Slow release on his shot, with a bit of a hitch
Inconsistent 3 point shooting
Physically weak (needs to put on weight for sure and keep getting stronger)
Athleticism is mostly average
Handles are average for an NBA guard, nothing special


I mean if I had a gun to my head? He's something like a bigger, more versatile Sam Cassell with the post moves of young Penny.

All star? Try perennial all star, maybe even superstar. This guy is gonna be a legit monster. I can see a peak player of 25/5/5 with great defense that gets to the FT often.

I think the change of direction, deceleration, layup craftiness, IQ is similar to Manu, not a bad comp. Overall though Manu was a far better shooter IMO and a little more gifted on offense naturally. I think SGA will be a much better defender.

Manu improved his shooting in the 3rd season. SGA has looked better in his first 2 seasons so I'm going to wait and see if SGA can improve his shot.

SGA probably will be better defensively in a vacuum, Manu had Duncan backing him so it's really tough to compare.

Too bad Kawhi demanded the PG trade because this Clippers team would have been so much better suited for the long haul if they could have kept their young players. They were fun to watch last year too and we know that Kawhi is a short-term rental. Lame.

Ginobili is a good comp. The way he moves also reminds me of Alex English for any of you old school fans.

I don't have a comp but he does remind me of Tobias Harris where they're both good players but I never notice them on the court. They score quietly if that makes sense.

Tough question. Maybe Wade? They have different body types, but similar games. SGA is a quick and crafty slasher with a good midrange jumper and average 3pnt shot. He's also a scrappy defender who blocks shots well for his position.



edit - Wade was a better passer, but I think SGA can develop that part of his game.

Because every time I watch SGA, it reminds me how much better he is than Kevin Knox and that my team drafted Kevin Knox instead of him.

Respectfully, I don’t love it. I think Manu was a bit more of a power player and his knack for exotic finishes sticks out.

Shai is more methodical to Manu’s mad scientist style. But Manu is probably more influential off ball due to how good he was attacking the basket even though I feel like Shai’s going to have the edge as a shooter over his career.

To me, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is somewhere between Micheal Ray Richardson and Larry Hughes.

Sugar Ray had a lot of herky-jerky craftiness in his game, especially with creating off the dribble and finishing underneath the basket. Richardson was also a tall point guard (6-foot-5), but more of a distributor; Gilgeous-Alexander is more like a tall guard who is better than an average shooting guard but overall average.

Hughes was more athletic but not nearly as efficient or consistent offensively as Gilgeous-Alexander. Hughes (6-5) also could play both guard positions like Gilgeous-Alexander, but I see both more as combination guards. While Richardson was a more demonstrable, forceful player, Hughes and Gilgeous-Alexander come across more as quiet secondary players.

Gilgeous-Alexander is seen as potentially a good defensive player, another commonality with Richardson and Hughes. Sugar Ray was a two-time first All-Defensive player who led the NBA in steals four times. Hughes once was on the first team All-Defensive team in 2004-05 after leading the NBA in steals.

Another comparable player is former Spurs guard Willie Anderson. Anderson was a lanky 6-7 guard who could play both positions and a little small forward in certain situations. Anderson's career became derailed by injuries, but he was a good third option for the 1989-90 Spurs team that added David Robinson, Terry Cummings and Sean Elliott:
