Pretty obvious Brown had a hand in remaking the team the way they did but leaking this (to Pompey of all people) seems like a pretty obvious attempt by someone in the front office to absolve themselves of blame of a decision that they also had a hand in.

Just came here to say that. The fact that this came from Keith Pompey made me question the purpose and timing of this report.

c'mon, they had to give Brett one more chance after being so close against Toronto last year, because Jimmy came in and demanded they institute some real offense, and realized he was going to have to handle the ball down the stretch to pull out these games. and you can't expect Brett to hold the locker room if Jimmy is taking charge, so you have to get rid of Jimmy. it makes perfect sense.

It's scary this stuff is coming out now because it's all leaks to make Brett Brown look bad so ownership can paint him as the sole problem so they have cover to run the collaborative front office back next year.

Absolutely. These scumbags are going to pin everything on Brown when they are the biggest part of the problem.

Well Trey Burke was waived by the Sixers in February and Dallas have signed him on June 25, so just two months ago. Today he scored 25 points on 10-14 shooting against the Clippers in a playoff game. "Just" this is enough for me to hold Brett very accountable. I mean you can't blame FO there, it seems like Brett didn't see absolutely anything in Burke.

Or someone in the front office realizes they're likely gone and are scrambling to keep their job. A lot less scary.

Trey Burke, Markelle Fultz, Alec Burks, Jerryd Bayless and TJ McConnell.
Guess who had the biggest role on the team.

Brett doesn't like guys that can score on the ball, as evidenced by the playing time given to these players we had. Only god knows what clueless Brett likes to see from his players, for sure it has nothing to do with winning traits that's for sure.
Great takes since 2024-04-20

just based on the title and assuming it is true...**** brett brown. i always liked the guy but thinking trading him for jrich (and to sign 34y horford) is a good idea is the most idiotic thing since trading to pick fultz. ruined the future of the whole franchise because he couldnt get along with jimmy??

Sources: 76ers' issues could lead to Brett Brown's departure
The handling of rookie Matisse Thybulle, who has demonstrated he’s an elite defender, was a head-scratcher. His minutes fluctuated at bizarre junctures, leaving some in the locker room to wonder if Brown had an axe to grind with the youngster, sources said.

All these reports coming out today about “o we would have signed Jimmy Butler if not for X” are nauseating and reek of an organization trying to shift the blame and focus. It’s gross

There’s certainly some truth, but it also seems like management conveniently trying to dump the blame all on Brett and not accepting any responsibility.

Butler did not agree to that stipulation, sources said, and both sides ended up parting ways. Butler was a force for the Sixers and proved to be their finisher down the stretch, but he wasn’t sold that the team was invested in winning, and his leadership style rubbed some the wrong way at times.
Brown didn’t appreciate how outspoken Butler was with his coaching tactics, and Ben Simmons once took issue with a text message Butler sent in a team group chat that instructed Simmons what not to do in an upcoming game against Brooklyn, sources said.
Interesting.

Re: Report: Brett Brown played hand in breaking up team because he didn’t want to deal with Jimmy Butler
Brown did a great job at doing the job he was hired to do, weather the storm and nurture players up to a point where they were ready to win. A Mo Cheeks style coach, a player's coach and one that guys love when they are struggling to just make it in the NBA. He is also obviously incapable of handling a talented team, especially on the offensive end and instilling discipline with more powerful players. We all knew it was Finals or bust this year for him, and he had a hand in the roster construction too. So he will be fired, this is hardly news, it was time, his flaws were vastly outweighing the good he did now and the expected will happen.
The blaming of every single roster decision on Brown now just stinks of a team that kept 90% or more of Colangelo's guys even after the Collar was starched out of here and is a perfect example of why cleaning house completely in the front office is an absolute necessity. They all need to go, from Brand and Brown on down and especially all of the Collar's guys that helped start the de-processing in the first place.

So with the two articles that Elton leaked to the press today... I think it's clear that Colangelo's boys intend to dump this all on Brett to try and save their own skins. I hope it doesn't work, although I already know it probably will.

What kinda logic is that about Butler. Saying if he met with other teams, they wouldn't offer him a max. This whole management is shady.

Classic hit piece planted by the scumbag front office.

Interesting.
What's funny about that is on the interview with Redick, Jimmy basically says it was really messed up that Brett took the ball from Ben and gave it to him in the playoffs last year.
Also Jimmy talking about Sixer film sessions where nobody says anything is very telling.

Re: Report: Brett Brown played hand in breaking up team because he didn’t want to deal with Jimmy Butler
No one in that organization will ever hold themselves accountable for anything, which is why they've become as pathetic as they are. They blamed everything on Hinkie instead of manning up and sticking with the plan. Instead of acknowledging their error in hiring Colangelo, they mandated his cronies stick around after he was let go, which cost them any shot at a legitimate GM. They made Brett Brown go out there and answer for their inept medical department instead of admitting allowing their franchise player to play games with a bone bruise and meniscus tear was medical malpractice. And they blame everyone but themselves for Butler leaving, when he was a restricted free agent and they could have matched any offer.
I love how they're slandering Brett on his way out when they thought enough of him to make him defacto GM 2 years ago when they were so incompetent and clueless that they went into free agency and draft without a GM. All because they wanted to shove Colangelo's assistants down candidates' throats.
This organization is pathetic. They truly are vomit-inducing.
