What is Lonzo Ball's Ideal Role on a Team?

After an improved year, Lonzo faltered in the bubble. With SVG now taking over the Pels, I'm very interested to see how he uses Ball.

In your opinion, what is the ideal role for Lonzo on a winning basketball team?

I'm sure you'll get a few and1 fishing replies like "Off the team" to your question. But seriously, I think his ideal role is as an off-guard playing beside a scorer like Kobe. If Lonzo's shooting holds up, then he'd basically be the ideal running mate to such a player. He defends at a high level, can obviously pass and move the ball, and seems to have a good understanding of how to move without the ball.

That kind of player would get minutes on any team in the league.

Defensive minded PG... How is this a question?
If you don't have a better option, he starts... If you do, he comes off the bench.

Personally, I bet SVG loves him. The Defense will win him over.

his numbers called when its time to miss a layup would of been my answer when he was a laker
now its push the tempo and dont let his man control the tempo, defense and passing and pray his open looks go down with somewhat consistency

Until proven otherwise, what Caruso is on the Lakers. Instinctive passer/playmaker, defender, hustle guy with occasional shooting.

He is basicaly a PG version of Ben Wallace. Wallace did 2 things great , rebound and defense and Lonzo is great at defense and passing. I mean Lakers won a ring with Rondo as the 3rd go to guy and his shot isn that great.

He’d be great in the Rockets system next to Harden.

His biggest flaw is he has zero mid range game, and can’t create his own shots. But in today’s league, his lack of mid range game is totally fine - as long as he quits shooting those shots; and his inability to create is a non issue if playing with a star scorer.

Last season, he became efficient with the catch and shoot 3, he’s solid finishing at the rim, is a very good passer, and a good defender.

So he’s an excellent complimentary piece as a 3&D guy who can run the break, and is a little unique due to his passing ability in top of that.

actually the pels were ideal except for being young and lacking shooters.

lonzo is an open court pg. the pels ran but they needed him to score and lonzo was raised to literally have an aversion to scoring.

mainly he needs to be on a good team. bad teams need scorers. he can fit on any good team because his game is seamless under those circumstances

His defense is grossly overvalued here. I think he could win multiple 6th man of the year awards though.

starting PG? I'm confused. Was this up for debate? Hopefully Jrue gets dealt and people will have to finally admit how good Lonzo is. It's so weird how much praise Luka gets when he's a turnover machine, can't shoot (31.6% from three) and is one of the worst defensive wings in the league...while at the same time Lonzo gets hate for being great on defense, NOT turnover prone and shooting 37.5% from three. Weird that.

Honestly take Jrue Holiday off the Pels and that's it.

Gets to focus 100% on facilitating because the Pels already have their go-to scorers in Zion and Ingram.
Ideally if Zion gets in shape, he has the perfect guy to push it in transition with.
Doesnt need to worry about being the guy to create offense in the half court. Ingram is that guy on the perimeter and Zion is that guy down low.
If the Pels can get a 5 that spreads the floor and replace Jrue with a shooter like a Joe Harris or Luke Kennard (thinking long term, that is why Im not saying JJ), that is pretty much the ideal scenario for Lonzo to excel.

With Jrue things got a little crowded out on that perimeter at times. Ingram was your scorer, so you had to keep him involved and many times it would be Jrue running the offense then Jrue either trying to score or giving it to Ingram to score. That would leave Lonzo kind of out of the loop. Rarely did you see all 3 perimeter guys have a good game the same game, it was usually 2 of the 3.
