Offers for Philly expiring contracts?

Post#1 » by HartfordWhalers » Thu Nov 19, 2020 1:27 pm

After some big moves, Philly now has a roster of
Benbiid
Tobias with all the money
Curry

And after that a bunch of rookie contract players (Thybulle/Shake/Maxey/Joe/Reid) and some expirings. Specifically:
Mike Scott $5,005,350
Ferguson $3,944,013
Zhaire $3,204,600
{Danny Green $15,365,853}

Lack of depth is an issue, as is lack of talent. On the other hand, maybe the goal is to save even more money for now? {Or to position to dump Tobias and get a new overpaid 3rd fiddle next summer?}

But Scott/Ferguson/Zhaire are 12m in bodies that it would make sense get moved in several scenarios.

Philly can trade a pick as long as it conveys before '23, and has 2 decent looking 2nds left:
2021 second round draft pick from New York
2023 second round draft pick from Atlanta, Charlotte or Brooklyn (most favorable)

Any offers?

I don’t think Philly has a lack of talent. Looks like they’re putting spacing around their stars. How it should have been from the start.

Isn’t Harris already an overpaid 3rd fiddle?

I think Philly should be calling NOP about Hill or JJ though. And Morey likely has made that phone call already. Hill for Scott+Zhaire+fake 2nd should be done.

I'm also interested in trying to replenish our assets and take a cap dump or two into that 8 million TPE.

I don't know. I feel like we saw this team two years (and about a dozen 1sts) ago and it wasn't talented enough.

Is Rozier of interest now? Unless Ball plays a lot of minutes at the 2 and 3 (or he's so bad that he doesn't get a ton of minutes), I don't see how we have minutes for all the guards.

Yeah but they were kids. They’re grown now.

Trust in your superstars and put roleplayers around them.

Scott, Zhaire, 2021 NY 2nd, 2023 CHA/ATL 2nd for Bjelica
Ferg, 2021 PHI 1st lotto prot for Holmes

All really one deal, but broken up like this for salary reasons. Maybe the 23 2nd can get dropped? But this fills out the frontcourt.

Keep in mind guys the Sixers basically just traded an entire draft just to get under the luxury tax.
If the Sixers make any salary dump trades it puts them more over the tax, which means the pay the incoming players PLUS the tax.

They need to keep those expirings to make the money match with a Harden trade if he expands his list to include the 76ers. This are the kind of contracts you dump at the deadline if saving money is your objective.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Curry
Milton / Green
Harris/ Thybulle
Simmons
Embiid

The depth chart (defensive positions) for the rotation players.

Needs are a 3&D big, a defensive PG, a 2nd facilitator, a shot creator.

Avery Bradley for TP MLE?

PJ Tucker seems like a good target here.

How many more draft assets should we really invest into becoming an even harder first round out?

They’re still about 4M over I believe.

I think a Curry/Rozier guard lineup gets feasted. And on value, I wouldn't swap Green for him without incentive.

But ignoring that.

Rozier $18,900,000 $17,905,263
for
Mike Scott $5,005,350
Ferguson $3,944,013
Zhaire $3,204,600
Danny Green $15,365,853

Philly saves 8m this year, takes on 18m next year. I don't like it, but with vet mins it might put the team below the tax. And then they could have oodles of shooting. And just play Ben Simmons at backup center, and Seth Curry at backup pf?

Which, if the goal is to get under, is probably giving Ferg away to someone who still views him as a free prospect.

I think it is paying someone to take Ferguson and Zhaire (vet mins will add salary and I don't want to do the math).

But did Philly just hire Morey at 12m a year to... cut costs?

Seems penny wise but pound foolish to spend ~20M annually on Glenn and Morey, only to immediately turn around and duck the tax.

Unless they’re already throwing in the towel on this year and looking to next offseason.

Not JUST to cut cost but definitely to run a business.
