I mean there's a guy who was so bad at GM'ing that he has a CBA rule named after him.

Re: Worst gm in nba history
Bryan "That is a normal collar" Colangelo surely is in the running.
Absolute shocking GM, screwed the process and took the Sixers from a potential championship team onto the treadmill,
On top of that we have nepotism, burner accounts defending himself and trashing players, then throwing his wife under the bus claiming it was her that set up the burners (when she struggled with English).
He is his biggest fan, with his massive collars and unbuttoned shirts. Absolute wanker.

Re: Worst gm in nba history
Ted Stepien was technically an owner.
Elgin Baylor has the excuse of working for Donald Sterling, plus he actually won Executive of the Year once.
Colangelo did a decent job on the Suns and, despite basically being horrific on the Raptors, won Executive of the Year there once.
I don't know what Billy King did at the Sixers other than trade for Mutombo; that alone would not be enough to outweigh his Nets tenure, but may be did other good stuff as well.

I'd say Billy King, at least among semi-recent GM's (going back to the late-70's/early 80's there were a lot of very high picks traded away for PEZ by bad GM's). Though this is somewhat biased for longevity, someone like KHAAN (or others with less fun names to shout) got fired before they could do as many bad moves. King was bad enough with Philly that it was surprising that he got hired again, then went to the top of this list with the Nets.

Cleveland had some horrible guy in the 80s. Vlade divac tried to take this title.
But it’s isiah Thomas’ time with the Knicks. You take away his draft picks and I don’t think there’s one good example of anything he did right. My two favorites are; he acquired mo Taylor and Malik Rose at one trade deadline to try and make a playoff push. That team wound up with like 30ish wins, no playoffs. And the offseason where he overbid against no one to sign Jerome James and gave up a ransom to get eddy curry.

Apparently he was very close to trading Allen Iverson for Corey Maggette at one point

He was an epic video game GM. If you could take control of the players minds as GM and only trade for their skillset, I think he did well lol

Re: Worst gm in nba history
It's Kahn for me.
What puts it over the top for me is that he absolutely fleeced Washington to start his career. He traded Randy Foye and Mike MIller for the 5th pick. That's insanely good and was the beginning of an incredibly successful career. Until he drafted Jonny Flynn over Steph Curry. Then hired Kurt Rambis to run the triangle...despite drafting two PnR PGs back to back. Then drafting Wes Johnson because he had a nice smile. Then attempting to build a team around Darko Milicic. Then drafting Williams, despite having Love and Beasley already on the roster.
I've never seen anyone start something so well and then screw up literally every single thing afterwards.

Considering that he was the first name to pop into my head when I looked at the thread title, it has to be him.
If Isiah Thomas was decent in the draft, he'd be a candidate as well.

After drafting Channing Frye.
