With Bron and AD resigning for as much money as they could, I guess the 3 headed monster dream is dead....and the Antetokounpo we will ever have is Kostas

First of all, it's fantastic to have locked in AD and Lebron for the long haul.

Second of all i think a lot of stuff had to happen for the 3-max plan to be possible - guys taking paycuts, Giannis wanting to join etc. - and i'm sure they figured it wouldn't happen. Also, it seems like Giannis might be staying in Milwaukee.

I think the big three era is over. Unless you can draft and develop a couple of superstars, it's difficult with current cap restraints.

Dang, we just locked down the best big man for five years! Laker Legacy worthy is all I have to say about AD. Made for our jersey. Extend him for ten total. Here’s to a healthy career. Don’t overuse him.

We need no third star. Rest of team being the third star just won us rings. Repeat.
Since the 1976 merger LAL 11, CHI 6, BOS 6, SAS 5, GSW 4

PG: Luka / Vincent / Bronny
SG: Smart / Reaves / Knecht / Mañon
SF: LaRavia / Rui / Thiero
PF: Bron / Vando / Kleber
C: Ayton / Hayes / Koloko

Its tough to make a big-3 work for a long timeframe unless you can draft your way into the team. At some point the superstars want max money and it gets increasingly difficult to put players around the stars.

I just wonder now that he’s tied for 5 years, can Vogel now tell AD to just play center no questions asked? Of course he shouldn’t be guarding behemoths like Nurkic and Jokic but most teams now don’t really have those huge bangers inside.
Great point about about that 3rd star. I can only think of 2 teams that had success using 3 big time scorers, GSW, and the Spurs and Duncan was getting up there in age when Parker blossomed and Manu was coming from the bench-never averaged 20 pts.
Bosh, Love and recently Kuzma (ave 18 pts) all had significantly reduced touches as a 3rd option.

I really think the just need to find a very good young 3&D player from the G League. Bruce Bowen was undrafted. Imagine Caruso developing a reliable jumper. Duncan Robinson is not a lockdown defender but he’s adequate...

Yup the Warriors just got lucky that one year with the Cap spike and Curry on a small deal only making 10million. Its back to the era of a big 2.

Big 3s aren’t necessary, what you want is a Big 2 where both players are top 5 players in the NBA. If you looked at LeBron’s previous teams, the Heat only really had two top 5 guys in 2011. After that Wade fell off. Love/Kyrie were never close to top 5 guys in the NBA. And on those two teams, LeBron was having to do everything in the playoffs. This year, LeBron played the fewest playoff minutes of his career, and he had his easiest path to a title. He never faced an elimination game, something that never happened in his previous 3 titles. Surround your two guys with players who can defend and knock down shots, and you’re in business. LeBron/AD are good enough to cover the rest. And Big 2’s have less chance of ego clashes than Big 3s. Not as many star mentalities in the locker room. The Clippers’ problem is that Pandemic P isn’t a top 5 player and Kawhi is an entitled diva who only plays when he wants to and has no leadership abilities. Father Time is the Lakers’ only concern right now, and so far LeBron is giving him one hell of a fight.

Stunning. No way I thought he’d sign a 4 + 1.

That’s a damn good feeling considering the amount we gave up for him. 18 months later, we have a championship and a 5 year extension.

And that sound of whimpering you hear is every Pelicans fan at the moment, wiping away their tears.

Glad we got him locked down. I'd rather have certainty of keeping one guy than waiting on a potential 3rd max that may not pan out.
We saw what happened with Kahwi last season.

I'm guessing we might even extend Kuz now.

Might make sense... I think his contract undervalues him a little bit as a trade chip... He is still a terrible fit with this roster, but no one seems to want him since he's due to get paid soon. So pay him a reasonable amount and try again...

As for the AD deal... It's a win for us to get him locked up long term and the price isn't a killer. I too, am shocked he signed for that long... But I'm thrilled.

Agree. Some good work by the brass to get this done. And a tip to Laker nation. Largest fan-base out there. People think there's something in the water....Stars always wanting to come here. LA certainly has it's perks...and the winning culture is there. But I think players see their arenas fill up when the Lakers come to town. They know. It's just better doing it in P&G.
