Pistons @ Wizards preseason game 3 thread 7 PM

Post#1 » by whitehops » Thu Dec 17, 2020 3:14 pm

second last look at these guys before the season starts!

the wizards have an interesting lineup now with wall gone:
PG: Westbrook
SG: Bradley Beal
SF: Deni Avdija
PF: Rui Hachimura
C: Thomas Bryant

two veteran talents in the backcourt and two top-10 wing players in their first and second years. if westbrook isn't a huge black hole (BIG IF) then they could potentially be a playoff team and develop their young guys at the same time.

but enough of them. not sure how casey will play things with the shortened training camp but this is traditionally the last game we see starters in the preseason. hoping we see a little more from the vets we added (grant, plumlee, etc.) and obviously hope any of the young guys show out.

let's see hayes lock down westbrook!

Hopefully the vets play less minutes tonight so we can try to get a better look at some of the young guys and try to figure out the rotation. Hard to believe we're just 6 days away from the regular season starting.

I think I'm most excited to see Sekou again. Kid just had so much potential

I'm sure Griffin & Rose will be held out altogether on Saturday. Tonight I'm guessing will look more like the last game.

Im in a wierd place with Sekou. He seems to fill up the stat sheet, but in watching him it seems opportunistic in how it comes about. Right place right time type of thing. I don't see him bringing the ball up, breaking down the defense, and dunking the ball, or passing for a wide open three.

I don't really see an option 1 with him, more of an option 3 type of player. Good, but not great. I'm sure he'll grow, and I'm hopeful, but as of now, I just don't see it. Hell, how often does he even dribble the ball?

Just an observation.

I'm not saying he will develop like Siakam, but that has always been his comparisson. Siakam was older and not doing all the things Sekou has done so far on offense.

I don't see Sekou being a #1 option as well, but hopefully he can turn into that, but if he is a 3rd or 4th option in a good team, we're already luck. He was a foreign, young, raw prospect drafted at #15, seems like he's been working hard and developing.

I worry about his minutes tho. Sekou and Bey need and deserve minutes to develop, and we have Blake and Grant as our 2 highest paid players ahead of them in the depth charts for the foreseeable future.

I agree I dont really see him as a #1 option but hes got a nice shooting stroke and the way he always finds the open cut is awesome. There was a play last game where I watched him actually take it to the rim himself from around the 3 point line though so hopefully he can start to take some guys off the dribble.

I also still see alot of Siakam in his game. Siakam was ass in the playoffs when he was trying to create instead of just doing his damage on cuts and transition offense like he was in the regular season.

Question about Fox Sports Detroit - Do their games all look grainy like 90s TV to you too?

I keep trying to find a Pistons game that is crystal clear like the rest of TV. Are still using the cameras from 10 years ago? Anyone know whats going on there?

From where Sekou is now to where Siakim was at his age I think he could be better version of him and I could see him being maybe a 2nd option on a team. He is already a better shooter than Sekou now. I wish he would get more touches bc you can see flashes that he can push the ball off a rebound.

Minutes are going to be a problem soley because of our current coaching situation. Casey is a good coach, not great, but a perfect mid-level coach for a team currently on the rise. In this situation, when it should be obvious, the younger players with whom you've gambled with draft picks, should be getting the lions share of the minutes.

Here is what is painfully obvious;

1.)Current team is crap. There is only upside in playing the rookies, and younger players.

2.)next years draft is supposed to be generational so even if you lose 60 games, there is no downside in ensuring at least a top 5 pick.

3.)Younger players need to create a bond between them. There is zero value in Hayes learning the ins and outs of Blake's game, only to have him traded within 6 months. He should be learning Sekou's cutting tendencies, Bey's spot up spots, and Stewart's offensive rebounding, and lob abilities.

I am really hopeful that tonight Casey starts the Young guys as it's the 3rd pre-season game and running Blake and Rose only risks injury.

Sekou could be a star if he keeps working. He has more potential that anyone on the team.

Sekou turns 20 on 12/23. I think he looks a little bigger this year. I have no idea how well he'll develop, but am encouraged that it looks like he's working at it. He's moving more this year on both offense and defense. Hoping he stays aggressive like last game. Nice having basketball back. Hope it lasts.

I think you all jumping on the Sekou hype train a little too fast. Remember, this is the young man that posterized Tristan Thompson and then could barely get pt on the Pistons - the Pistons! - last year. And I don't blame Casey - when he played he looked lost. That said, you knew he was going to need a year to make all those adjustments to new country, NBA, etc. We'll just have to see...

I was hoping to see Russ, actually.

General disappointment as far as his career trajectory goes, but I admit I still like him despite his obvious flaws. Maybe the next game.

I'm hoping to see Winston and Wagner on the court together during these two games.

I don't know what Sekou will develop into, but his lack of driving/playmaking right now is by design. He dribbled his way into trouble all year as a rookie and coach has been pretty emphatic that he wants him to play to his strengths. He needs to use his athleticism to cut hard in halfcourt, fill lanes on the break, and be disruptive defensively. If he does that, he'll get the minutes he needs to work on the other stuff in game situations.

I'm sure its going to get better with Grant as time goes on, but he's really struggled up to this point putting the ball on the floor. He just got another TO on a charge trying to create his own shot. Then he just missed a fairly easy alley opp from Killian. He's been awful in non catch and shoot FGAs and its starting to feel like we gave prime Anthony Tolliver $60 million over 3 seasons.
