The Kevin Durant Thread - 2020/2021 Season

Post#1 » by StepBackCrack » Sat Dec 26, 2020 5:40 pm

Welcome back, KD :) The game missed you a lot.

It's hard to believe this man had a career-ending injury and still able to look this good almost immediately. I bet he worked his ass off during the missed time and I'm sure the extended break helped him recover better. Physically he still looks the same to me which is so incredible. Both his offense and defense are still amazing. He was so good defending a high level star in Tatum. Also, it's amazing how he can adapt easily to any team quickly. Just plug him anywhere and he still can show his best when he wants to. :) He was passive in the first half but then easily took over in the 3rd quarter (was unstoppable) and that was it. Nets pulled away.

Great stuff. Also, seems to have perfect chemistry with Kyrie already. Both are such a joy to watch on the court. So much skill.

Durant has looked great. It is a testament to his greatness and work ethic as a player. If he keeps it up, then I hope it opens the door for players with significant injuries to stop rushing back, and take the full 1.5-2 years off that are required to truly recover from major injuries. I am curious to see how well he holds up over the grind of a full season, and honestly I feel that he will start to fall off after a bit, but I will remain cautiously hopeful!

Having Kyrie has been huge for him. he has a guy next to him teams have to help and double. alot of good looks and one on ones for a guy who is the leagues best scorer.

he has 87 points on 51 shots. He hasnt even really been aggressive, just going with the flow of the offense.

Huge game Tonight

30.7 PPG on 68.3 TS%, 6.9 RPG,5.7 APG on 3.9 TOPG (I expect this to fall with familiarity) and his steals and blocks are 0.9 and 1.0 per game respectively

His On-Off as of tonight was +14.8/+18.4

Seems crazy to say but we might have a peak offensive year from him in terms of production, and maybe even across the board if he ramps up playoff intensity.

Kind of wonder how Kyrie fits into all of this. I’d be more confident in Brooklyn if they had a slightly worse player who could still hit threes but wouldn’t use as much possessions because imo Harden and Durant are almost a perfect fit

Also regarding style of play, this team is gonna be amazing to watch going forward, I think that will somewhat take off the frustration people had watching harden as he will finally be able to take a more hands off role, where he can get better shots rather than relying on an iso since nobody else can consistently play make

The Harden - Durant connection I feel will only increase and tbh I can see even 3-4 years out this team still being a contender. Utah Jazz 2.0 style but even better
I came here to do two things: get lost and slice **** up & I'm all out of directions.

Mostly on twitter probably lol. I'm a fan of him as well but I still don't post on this site often. Probably, I think the fact that this site is usually anti-KD (often irrationally) for a long time discouraged some of them. Just a guess from my part. Also missing a full year is another factor. I also think all the drama that surrounded him and all the irrational hate for him did prevent many people from actually enjoying his amazing basketball skills which is a shame. He is really a brilliant all-time great. I have never seen a player like him before and he is a totally a team player. Quite unselfish out there. He is quite sensitive often (nothing wrong with that to me) but at the same time, he is quite professional with his teams and always tries his best.

Overall, I think people will enjoy him much more this season since he isn't on GSW anymore. Nets is a fresh start and are a fun contender (not the faves to win but still promising to do great). I also think people will enjoy Harden more.

His two-man game with Harden has the potential to be so damn special. I couldn't stop smiling watching them play together vs the Magic. It's like they have been playing together forever and they haven't even practiced yet. Just so incredible. Perfect fit. I'm quite interested to see how Kyrie's integration with them turns out.

30.7 PPG on 68.3 TS% is insane. I do expect the points to come down as Kyrie and Harden are incorporated, but I hope he can keep his efficiency high.

I think the fact that he looks like he hasn't lost a step at all is the most impressive thing about him this year.

People are forgetting about Joe Harris when they think about this team. Irving, Harden, Harris, and Durant is unstoppable offense. He is a Hall of Fame level shooter.

Been amazing. Think this team has what it takes. FO/core group/coaching..tho this switching defense is literally killing a team whose drop coverage had them 9th last season. they are asking so much without ideal personnel while the same/similar personnel was defensively top ten with a more simplistic scheme.
Would be blowing out teams using Jacque Vaughn’s/Kenny’s defense

Yea I do question if the switch everything was personnel decisions but they were trapping and recovering before the trade. They look great defensively when DJ drop he doesn’t look washed but he’s still too focus on off ball switches than concerning himself about paint protection.
We Nets fans want Drummond but the defense doesn’t improve if the principles don’t change.
One center two center three their principles assume they have more players who can simultaneously guard the perimeter, post, recover and off ball paint protect. They aren’t the Rockets full of +215lbs players with athleticism. They are playing the wrong style for this team.

Simple changes and they become the greatest team of all time.
