Re: Lamarcus Aldridge HOFer?
In each of these threads that has come up in recent years, I said he is very likely going to make it just on pure volume stats, which DO matter (sorry statheads), There are certain statistical cutoffs beyond which basically anybody who hits them is 100% going to be in.
But the thing is: he's not there yet. This abrupt falling off came so suddenly that it's possible he might not.
Once you hti 22,000 points, not one single player in NBA history who has scored that many points is not in the HOF. If you reach that level, which is Top 30 or so all time in the NBA, you're flat in.
But Aldridge has suddenly stalled out now at 19887pts, and at that level, you can still miss. Antawn Jamison is at 20042pts and will never be in. Tom Chambers is at 20049, and never got the call. Joe Johnson is at 20405 and never should either.
Aldridge might still make it today with slightly higher stature, and he can still make it if he can grind out a few roleplaying seasons and get up solidly into the 21/22/23000+ pt levels. But it's the first time in a while where there might be a question.

He made it to 7 all-star games. 6 all-star games have always been the magic number for me. He's made 5 All-NBA teams. Plus it looks like he will finish with 20K points and 9k rebounds. Those are HOF numbers. He's not a first ballot but he will get in one of those years where there are no big name players.

Chambers only made it to the all-star game 4 times and Jamison was a 2 time all-star. Lamarcus made it 7 times to the all-star game. I have yet to see a guy who has made it that many times not get into the HOF.

It's actually pretty close. There has been less talented players that have gotten in the past.

No single moment from his career besides the horrible Lakers free agency presentation stands out to me, so I’m going with no.

I don't see how him getting in waters down the HOF. There are guys stat wise who are worse than LMA that have gotten in.

Shawn Kemp, Amare Stoudemire, and Jermaine O'Neal all have 6 All-Star selections and unlikely to get in.
However, Aldridge has around the same amount of accolades, while having much better longevity.
He won't be first ballot, but Aldridge will get in at some point.

He will get in at some point, just not first-ballot. 7 All-Star selections, 5 All-NBA selections, would have probably gotten more hype if he played on big-market teams.
They literally just let in guys like Charlie Scott, Mo Cheeks, Paul Westphal, and Jack Sikma a few years ago. Guys that were third/fourth options on a single championship team. None of those guys have a significant case over Aldridge.

Agreed that's my point. He's not a first ballot but his longevity and his accolades all add up to a hall of fame career.
