Jimmy Butler After Loss To Wolves: 'We Don't Deserve To Win'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Apr 17, 2021 4:16 pm

Jimmy Butler criticized the Miami Heat's inconsistency and lack of humility following their 119-111 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“We don’t deserve to win. Whenever we take these teams lightly, we don’t do what we’re supposed to do on the defensive end, we just look bad, as a whole, as a group, as a unit. It’s not good basketball," said Butler following the loss.

The team is currently on a three-game losing streak.

“It’s on us to figure it out. I can’t tell you which way we’re going to go. I don’t know what team is going to show up on any given night," added Butler.

Butler lead the team with 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists.

The guard also implored Bam Adebayo to be more aggressive on offense.

“I want Bam to attack the rim, because nobody can stay in front of him. Go. You’re going to get fouled or you’re going to dunk on somebody ... play bully ball. I like bully ball.”

Miami off-season blunder was allowing Jae Crowder to walk to the Suns -- he allowed the Heat to maximize their versatility ( and is doing the same with the league leading Suns ).

Miami is struggling because they have regressed from three -- if they correct this for the playoffs they should be in contention :

- Jimmy Butler : near career low from three ( 23 % )
- Duncan Robinson accuracy down to 43.8% fg / 40% three ( down from 47%fg / 44%three )
- Tyler Herro down to 32% from three ( down from 38% last season )
- Nemanja career low from three ( 18% -- career average of 38% )
- Oladipo career low from three ( 23% -- career average of 34% )

And the following :

- Bam averaging single digit rebounds ( 9rpg )
- Oladipo average 12ppg after being acquired ( and career lows in shooting overall )
- Inserting Ariza in the starting lineup ( instead of Herro )

Spo has always struggled with offense. We struggled on offense even with prime LeBron, prime Wade, and prime Bosh. In 4yrs we averaged (102ppg, 98ppg, 102ppg, 102ppg)all of which would rank dead last today. Spo has needed an offensive coordinator for years.

Agree the heat have had issues on the offensive end -- but Spo is a phenomenal coach -- just think they need that having a 35 year old Ariza / Iguodala in your starting lineup does not bode well for the confidence of Tyler Herro ( he clearly has relapsed after a stellar rookie year ).

Heat will have an interesting contract dilemma this offseason :

* do they resign a clearly declining Oladipo to a long-term deal / short term deal / sign & trade
* do they offer Duncan Robinson a big contract ( when he is a byproduct of their system & may not have the same value to other teams )
* do they give Herro the starting nod or making him a perpetual 6th man

Anyone with any basketball knowledge knew the Heat going to the finals last season was a fluke. If isn't was for the pandemic. They would have lost in the first round.

And please share why the other Eastern Conference teams weren't granted this "fluke" :) and oh right of courrrse if it wasn't a pandemic the Pacers would've won 4-0 instead?

-maybe to victor. Re sign him to a 2+1 team option depending on how their medical staff thinks they can bring him along. Hes been in Indiana, they dont have the same resources to get a player healthy like the heat do. He just played his best game for the heat before he tweaked his leg.
-Duncan Robinson helps bam just as much as bam helps duncan robinson so im not sure what teams are willing to pay since there are only a couple guys with a big who does decision making like bam. Duncan can probably improve his body a bit to become a better defender, which miami is uniquely eqipped to facilitate.
-they need to decide between he or oladipo as the sixth man. but they need combo guard to start in case dragic retires or decides he wants to go play with luka this offseason. Herro has all the talent he showed in the bubble, its just confidence, health and teams adjusting to him and physicality, which he has to learn to overcome.

The losing coincides with victor going down and dragic being not healthy. I would worry about getting those two back in the lineup without losing anyone else first and foremost.
