Big boy 6'4 330

Positives

Large, wide-bodied gap occupier who flashes power. Fires off the snap, uses his hands well, and keeps his feet moving. Strong in his lower body and bull rushes blockers off the line of scrimmage to penetrate the backfield. Plays with proper lean.

Negatives

Was a little too large at Florida, tipping the scales at more than 350 pounds. Average production in college and isn’t much of a pass rusher.

Analysis

Slaton displayed the ability to clog the middle of the field and push the pocket at the college level, but he must round into a complete defensive lineman if he’s to play on Sundays. He's dropped almost 30 pounds since the end of his senior season and is headed in the right direction. Slaton’s size and power will get consideration from two-gap defenses, and at the very least he's worth stashing on a practice squad next fall.

There is your space eater on run downs. If Tyler Lancaster could see the field, I see no reason why Slaton can't.

STRENGTHS: Carries a lot of mass on his frame…tremendous raw power…creates movement at the snap when he fires low and drives his legs…flashes violence midrush with slaps and rips to free his hands and attack gaps…has some flexibility through his hips and lower body…stays balanced through angle blocks and double teams, keeping his feet beneath him and his body off the ground…able to peek in the backfield to work toward designed lane…adequate pursuit quickness for a player his size…played with improved conditioning and effort as a senior.

WEAKNESSES: Battled weight and body composition issues in Gainesville, surpassing 380 pounds at one point…inconsistent gap leverage and still learning what it takes to play assignment-sound…inconsistent get-off and anticipation and needs to better stay ahead of plays…not a proven pass rusher…showed improved hand use as a senior, but still requires plenty of schooling to shed blocks…struggles to reset his anchor, especially versus double teams…inconsistent football character and his maturity must improve…suspended for the 2019 season opener for a violation of team rules…only one season as a full-time starter with below-average production.

SUMMARY: A one-year starter at Florida, Slaton played nose tackle in defensive coordinator Todd Grantham’s even and odd fronts. He was the highest-ranked recruit in the Gators’ 2017 class (ahead of C.J. Henderson and Kadarius Toney), although his college career was a slow ascent as he adapted to the defensive line after playing primarily on offense in high school. Slaton carries his weight like a smaller player while flashing the raw strength to stay underneath blocks and find the football. His senior tape showed a more mature player, but his shed timing, gap leverage and overall consistency require further development. Overall, Slaton is a massive athlete
with the raw power, promising technique and two-gap potential to be an intriguing project for an NFL defensive line coach.

GRADE: 6th-7th Round

Finally got a massive dude for the line.

Eh... I like Bohanna more since he doesn't seem likely to eat himself out of the league...
But if big boy here doesn't become a big whale, he can be a nice run stuffer

If he can be an upgrade to all non Clark DL and Stokes can upgrade King or at least upgrade nickel - defense could be nasty.

I haven't seen many bad things written about this dude. Run stuffer. Later, Lancaster.

Surprised his career didn't take off after that plum role

Green Bay is a perfect place to combat a weight problem, while also blending in with the citizens.

Lot of fat people in Green Bay is what I'm getting at here.

Walterfootball likes him.

Green Bay Packers: Tedarrell Slaton, NT, Florida - A+ Grade
I love this value. Tedarrell Slaton has some concerns with possible weight issues, but he's drawn some comparisons to D.J. Reader. He'll be a monstrous run stuffer, and he provides a bit of pass-rushing upside at his massive size. Slaton could have gone in the third round without complaints from me.

Might have already happened. Didn't I read here that he's already lost like 30 lbs since the end of the season?

If he was 340+ in those clips that’s a scary man.
