Grade the draft

Post#1 » by ReasonablySober » Sun May 2, 2021 1:24 am

CB Eric Stokes, Georgia (Round 1, Pick 29)
C Josh Myers, Ohio State (Round 2, Pick 62)
WR Amari Rodgers, Clemson (Round 3, Pick 85)
G Royce Newman, Ole Miss (Round 4, Pick 142)
DT Tedarrell Slaton, Florida (Round 5, Pick 173)
CB Shemar Jean-Charles, Appalachian State (Round 5, Pick 178)
G Cole Van Lanen, Wisconsin (Round 6, Pick 214)
LB Isaiah McDuffie, Boston College (Round 6, Pick 220)
RB Kylin Hill, Mississippi State (Round 7, Pick 256)

Yea, everyone knows it's a fools errand to grade a draft immediately. But do it anyway.

B-

Thought this years draft was a little short on talent after the top 20 compared to past years.

Would have liked us to move up in the 1st.

Sir, I gave it a B.

They somehow took guys I didn't particularly want at their spot, but managed to take the positions I was hoping for. Since I don't know dick, I'm gonna be happy they looked to have plugged some needed holes.

Ok thanks. I'd say A- and meet you halfway, but I think B+ is fine. Filled some needs but didn't do anything that jumped out at me

https://www.nfl.com/news/2021-nfl-draft-final-quick-snap-grades-for-all-32-teams

Day 1 grade: A

Day 2 grade: A-

Day 3 grade: A

Analysis: Cornerback was a major need for the Packers, and with receiver Rashod Bateman off the board to the Ravens, they decided to pick up the speedy and competitive Stokes with their first-round selection. Myers will be a sturdy professional in the pivot for the next few years, though it will be interesting to see how other center prospects who were available at No. 62 will work out for their teams. Rodgers was an excellent selection in Round 3 to give the team a much-needed returner and playmaker in the slot (and sometimes in the backfield).

The Packers found their right tackle in Newman, who isn’t a plus athlete but can move defenders off the ball and is reliable in pass protection. Van Lanen is another solid late-round lineman. The defensive line got a big man up front in Slaton, who was unblockable at times for the Gators when fresh. Jean-Charles should contribute in the slot and outside, always fighting through the receiver to knock away passes. McDuffie was a great value for a team needing an active inside linebacker. Hill could stick as a third back and provide real value if Aaron Jones and/or AJ Dillon get hurt.

"B" Before the draft, I was hoping they'd snag either DL, CB, OL, or and LB in the early rounds. That could be done while drafting the BPA at the time and still filling gaps. They got the Corner and some linemen, and Amari Rogers could be a real asset, so I should be happy. I'm kinda enh.., but then the Packers were mostly drafting near the end of each round, so the pool gets picked over by the time they select.

Happiest with the draft I've been in a while. Pretty solid, defensible picks. Will be interesting to see if Gute picked the right center in Myers, as he had his pick of the litter.

Don't think we got any stars, but hard to do too much better where we drafted, IMO.

Seems like a lot of high floor guys. Hopefully Stokes reaches his potential.

Edit: I'll add that with all the dudes they have locked into big contracts (and with a couple more on the horizon), they need a bunch of these guys to make the team and contribute in one way or another on their rookie deals.

I like everyone but Stokes. Hope he surprises me. or he stands next to King in training camp a lot and his speed magically transfers over.

A++++++++.

Can never go wrong drafting a CB in round 1 or 2.

Taking a C in round 2 is a great use of a premium draft pick and he should be a starter day 1.

Team has needed a slot WR since before Cobb got injured and became ineffective about 6-7 years ago, so love the round 3 pick.

Using 3 picks on projected NFL guards, just one year after taking 2 guards and a C, is a sure fire way to make sure the interior offensive line continues to be a position of strength.

If and when the round 5 DT ever commits to getting into shape he could fill a run-stopper void that has only existed for about a decade now.

The 5th round CB and the 6th round LB look like they could contribute to STs and the Pack's STs sure could use some contributors.

The RB in round 7 looks like a potential steal and you need multiple RBs in MLF's offense.

I see both some potential future impact guys and some immediate contributors (which is really odd because I swear I read somewhere that no player who the Pack could have selected in round 1 in 2020 could have contributed to the team as a rookie last season).

Solid B from me. Filled some needs and got high upside guys. Kylin Hill in the 7th might be a steal as well. He's kind of like James White and if rumors were true, Packers had interest in White during FA.
