Which active players could get in the top 10 all time scoring?

Post#1 » by GODeron » Sat May 8, 2021 2:19 am

Carmelo is a few points to achieve top 9 in the all time scoring list, was wandering who else could get in the top 10...

Harden? Durant? Curry?

As a long shot maybe Luka?

Harden and Durant are very possible, no way Steph, missed too much time early and doesn't have the raw volume.

maybe Luka at some point but too early to say.

Durant
Harden
Luka
Tatum
Young

Will all crack 30k including playoffs (Have no idea why they don’t add it in total makes no sense when playoffs is like 10x more valuable then regular season stuff) or get very close is my bet when it’s all said and done. I’ll bet Trae and Luka gets the 30k and 10k assists which would be extremely rare company.

Honestly didn’t know Melo was that high.

Giannis might have a shot eventually assuming health and a later career move to the 5. Would need to maintain somewhere near current scoring until age 34 season. Not likely but not impossible to crack top 10.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

If Klay doesn’t return to his 2016 self I can see Curry maybe squeaking in. His early ankle issues have hurt his chance unfortunately

I don't even like the guy but wouldn't be surprised if somehow Devin Booker did it.

Durant and Harden are the only 2 players I can see doing it but they've hurt each others chances by playing together. For anyone talking 24 or younger please reference Tracy Mcgrady and his early 2000s projections on Sportscenter.
My opinion may not be your opinion or their opinion but I have it.

Top 10 is reserved for the greatest scorers blessed with otherworldly longevity and the bar gets higher and higher as years go by.

I would not dare include young players very early in their careers.

Hakeem had a fairly long career, 13 consecutive seasons averaging 20+ppg and he's "only" 12th.

Barkley with 11 straight seasons with 20+ ppg, 5 seasons with 25+ ppg. He's 27th all-time.

Realistically, only Durant and Harden have a decent shot. Curry has already missed too many games and he became a great scorer much later in his career compared to the top 10. Even KD and Harden are already starting to miss a lot of games.

As far as getting to 30,000 I have KD, Harden should reach it.

Luka and Booker if they stay healthy.

Westbrook is a long shot.

Demar Derozan is currently 84th all time at 17,637. He is 31 years of age.

He has averaged 20+ ppg for 9 straight seasons now so if he keeps up this pace for another 6 or so years, he should be around 27,000 to 29,000 points to finish his career. That would put him between 8th and 11th all time.

That would put him in the range of guys like Shaq, Carmelo, Moses, Elvin, Hakeem, Oscar, Dominique and Tim just to name a few.

He would finish his career with more total points than names like Bird, Vince, KG, Pierce, Jerry West, Ewing, Ray Allen, Iverson, Barkley, Wade, Baylor and Gervin just to name a few.

Demar Derozan may be the most underrated player in the NBA.

Durant and Harden are the most likely among veterans. Probably Lillard is third but that's a real outside shot. Curry is already 33 and only at 18k so he is unlikely.

Doncic and Zion are the most likely among the youngsters, health permitting. I think the shift towards greater pace and greater efficiency will put some young guys in a great position to finish highly on this list.
