Insane speed of Wilt Chamberlain

Post#1 » by 70sFan » Thu Jul 1, 2021 10:50 pm

I decided to use only NBA clips, without more famous college footage. It's unbelievable how fast Wilt was at 7'1 and 290-310 lbs.

I remember watching this first clip somewhere (probably the same video). The pure speed he runs at, truly incredible athlete.

He and Magic Johnson both made incredible plays look easy. I was lucky to see both play and didn't realize how amazing they were until I looked back. Sometimes you take greatness for granted.

Incredible how fast he got down the court, takes like 12 steps to go the full length of the court. If that.

Another observation is how unathletic and unskilled these guys look compared to current day scrubs even. Incredible how athlete's have evolved over the years.

Surely you're not referring to Wilt here?

He can barely dribble lol. That's hilarious.

Wilt was in a league of his own, but I think Giannis comes close:

I've seen Greg Monroe run the floor just as well if not better. Wilt's athleticism would look slightly above average in todays NBA at most.

Not a knock against him, for his time yeah he was one of the most athletic dudes out there, if not the most. It's impressive how far athletes have come compared to back then.

Wilt was an oversized LeBron, which is even more amazing that it sounds when you think what happens to the body with that scaling.

The speed, the coordination, the sheer power, the stamina! I truly think Wilt is the best physical specimen to ever play basketball. Shaq, David Robinson, Nate Thurmond, LeBron, Westbrook, Jordan... All of them were one in a million guys, but Wilt was one in an entire species. Never seen anything like it.

Wilt's definitely a biggest Giannis, right down to the inability to hit FTs. But the finger roll layups right over guys Giannis took from Wilt.

Far more skilled and a much higher BBIQ with Shaq.
Wilt was a great defender, but he relied solely on his physical dominance on offense, he didn't understand how to pass and wasn't very efficient. It's why he doesn't belong in the top 10 all time in my opinion.
Probably the 2nd best defensive C ever next to Russell, but Russeĺl was better because he knew he wasn't skilled enough to score so didn't try and just focused on passing and rebounding.
