Nothing new here. Saying exactly what you would expect a GM with a #1 pick to say.

It was funny how the media folks were trying to ask creative questions to get him to tip his hand. Naturally without much to go on they will likely invent something to generate headlines again.

I'll then wait for someone to tell me how this presser was another demonstration of Weaver causing that problem by refusing to give information.

What problem, exactly? You're the one who thinks there's a problem with the media.

Here's your headline-

"Weaver still undecided, non-committal, or both."

Now go ahead and blame the media for it. Genius. I suppose the media forced him to hold the press conference, too.

I get the impression that it would not be wise to play poker with Troy for money.

How about: "Weaver still refuses to disclose Pistons Plans on Draft Day" See. It's really not hard to write something that's actually correct.

But just like last time when we saw the fiction about the Pistons' preference for Jalen Green we'll have some guy who posts it as actual fact that the Pistons are for certain going in a different direction. And then we'll have a bunch of people willing to swallow that fish hook; completely bait-free.

As far as why he held the press conference I'm honestly not certain. It could be simply that the Pistons have something scheduled on a weekly basis. It could even be some sort of league requirement as well?

But do you honestly believe that it was Weaver's idea of a good time to come to a press conference and say absolutely nothing? Come on.

P.S. I changed the original post because non-committal is correct.

Exactly. Weaver not saying who he's picking = Weaver not committed to Cade according to the media and the fans already attached to either Green or Mobley. Weaver and the team may very well have already told Cade they're taking him but to please keep it quiet in order to keep the excitement level for draft night amped up. Basically everything but "We're taking Cade" = "The Pistons not committed to Cade" which then to some = there's a strong likelihood Weaver won't take Cade.

The one telling thing he said? That all the rumors about fantastic deals being offered are "bunk" and "don't believe everything you read." Now to me, no fantastic deals being offered = the Pistons are taking Cade.

Media availability is a league requirement. Weaver doesn’t just choose to do interviews, it’s required of his employer. Is that truly not known by fans? Now, that doesn’t mean he’s forced to divulge information and it’s obvious he has no intentions to do so. People can read into that whatever they want.

Yep. That interview to me sounded like Weaver's version of "I'm just here so I don't get fined."

If you keep the number one pick, have you decided who you would pick yet.

No.

If true that is scary, but likely just him not giving the media anything.

Weaver is the king of saying stuff without actually saying anything of note so I don't know how anybody can take anything substantial from this presser or any that he does tbh..

I like the moves he's made thus far, and the following has little bearing on his GMing ability, but he has to be one of the worst speakers I've ever heard.

If he says "Yes" then every question for the next two days is going to be "Who's the pick?" or "When will you know/make the decision?" He has no motivation to put himself through that. Now, is a better answer "You'll know on draft night what my decision is"? Sure. But he doesn't owe anyone that answer.

I don't know why they bother with these. They know that he's not going to give anything of substance up here.

Weaver was never going to tip his hand but it’s becoming fairly obvious Cade is the guy

More indication that he uses the pre-Draft process to find out as much as humanly possible about these guys before they get taken off the market for years!

Think of it as recruiting before we're actually recruiting them some day in the future.

With him being so stoic and never giving much information, the Giannis comment surprised me.

I hope he doesn’t get fined for tampering for that sarcastic answer.

Personally think Weaver enjoys giving these kind of press conferences where he can talk and say nothing for the duration.

If you watch and pay attention Weaver often hesitates before answering the question, like he has to phrase his answer in his head first before he speaks.

He also randomly cracks a little smile and looks off to the left or right (presumably at Piston staff)...which suggests he's enjoying himself in that environment.

All of that suggests he's a highly intelligent individual enjoying the game of chess being played here vs the reporters

I totally agree and that’s why I like Weaver.

I definitely prefer his business like approach better than the salesman type.

Reminds me of Elon Musk on Joe Rogan with all the hesitation before answering
