Welcome Charles Bassey
Looks like a big-bodied prototypical center. From what I hear he's not good at defending the perimeter, but is a good rim protector and rebounder.
Can he be the 3rd string Center this year? Are we gonna sign him or send him overseas?
Time's yours.

Norvel Pelle 2.0

Let’s hope he has better hands and is a better PNR finisher than Pelle (or Dwight). My suspicion is that if we had one really high level roll threat on the team, it would unlock a whole other gear for Maxey.

I think your assessment of Bassey is perfect. That's exactly how I evaluate him.
Is he ready? I think he is. He has 72 starts under his belt and was an impact player since the day he stepped foot on campus.

Has shot 75%+ FT each year at WKU. Upside as a shooter. Looks the part, enormous with decent wingspan and a bruiser. Put up decent numbers throughout his college career. I think he appears to be the best prospect of the three we drafted, which is unfortunate.

I think Charles Bassey will be good, better than springer. His numbers is good. Mobile, long, play defense, shoot 3 and finish around the rim.

Agent wants him to sign a contract prior to playing. Still being negotiated.

His agent is holding him out because he has not signed his contract from Pompey.

You gotta sign with Pompey now before you can play for the team? I thought Morey had cleaned up the FO.

I wonder if they are offering him a two-way deal and he wants a straight NBA contract. The league and players association came to an agreement that protects guys who play before signing, though that protection might be lower for a late second rounder. Either way, playing and playing well is the best way to earnt that full contract.

"Per Pompey's report, Bassey has yet to ink a contract with the Sixers since he's been drafted. Therefore, his representatives suggest he remains healthy and off the court until he's locked into a deal.
Typically, late second-round picks would land on a two-way deal with their teams, but the Sixers filled both two-way slots with the undrafted rookie out of Michigan State Aaron Henry and the veteran guard Rayjon Tucker. Bassey will likely land a standard NBA contract, but he has yet to make it official with the 76ers."

Is it just me, or is this unprecedented? An American draft pick missing summer league because they can’t agree on a contract? Usually, it’s either a FRP where the contract terms are standard, or its a second rounder with no leverage?

Maybe we should close down the thread. Can’t welcome someone who won’t sign.

Didnt we had the same issue with McDaniels before?

Don’t recall, but wikipedia says KJ was at summer league but then missed the start of training camp because of his contract.
Not sure where Bassey’s agent is going with this. You’re a late second round pick, you’ve got a tepid market for traditional bigs, and you’ve got a fellow drafted big who is playing SL and would love to take your roster spot. I’m sure the Sixers would be happy to sign Petrusev and “stash” Bassey if they can’t agree in a contract.
