What 25 players would you add for the 75th year?

Post#1 » by CircleCitysportsfan » Fri Aug 20, 2021 10:45 am

In 96-97 season the NBA came up with a list of the top 50 players off all time to coumarate the anniversary. What about adding an additional 25 players for the 75th year anniversary? My list is not in any order, it's not scientific, just names that popped into my head at the time. Who would you add? Who would you remove?

1.Lebron James
2.Tim Duncan
3.Kobe Bryant
4.Dirk Nowitski
5.Kevin Garnett
6.Ray Allen
7.Chris Bosh
8.Carmelo Anthony
9.Dwight Howard
10.Kawhi Lenoard
11.Jason Kidd
12.Steph Curry
13.Kevin Durant
14.James Harden
15. Giannis antetokounmpo
16. Chris Paul
17. Russell Westbrook
18. Klay Thompson
19. Allen Iverson
20. Paul Pierce
21. Anthony Davis
22. Damian lillard
23. Dwayne Wade

When they did the 50 for 50 list, they pretty much ignored anyone under age 30. I think Shaq was the lone exception at age 24. That might hurt the chances for Giannis AD and Jokic although I think Giannis would be included.

Some other names deserving consideration. Payton, (the previously snubbed) Wilkins, Miller, P Gasol (should be ahead of Bosh imo), Parker.

That's a good list you have, in my opinion. I wouldn't remove any player from that list.

I would probably remove some players from the original 50 Greatest List. The weakest candidates I see here: Billy Cunningham, Dave DeBusschere, Sam Jones, Jerry Lucas, James Worthy, Lenny Wilkens, Dave Bing.

I am not saying that all these people shouldn't be on the list anymore, they are just some candidates I saw. The question now, of course, is who could be on the list instead. Same names that come to mind: Gary Payton, Dominique Wilkins, Tony Parker, Chauncey Billups, Chris Webber, T-Mac....

Edit: Completely forgot Reggie.

I don't see any way you can put some of those guys above Sam Jones. Ten rings, one of the best shooters of his era, lots of clutch playoff baskets. If the point of basketball is to win games, I'd take him over anyone you mentioned. If anything, I'd guess maybe 5 or 10 legacy guys get added to the 25. What's the point of putting T-Mac on there? So he can get bumped off by Trae Young in 25 years?

This is a list based on the BEST EVER, not a HOF list... Is Klay Thompson better than Dominique Wilkins for example?

No Dwight Howard? He has a much longer list of individual awards list than McGrady, Carter, Yao, Miller. He has made as many or more All-Star teams, more All-NBA selections(most 1st-Team), much more All-Defensive teams, more major awards(3x DPOTY), lead the league in more major stat categories(5x Reb, 2x Blk, 1x FG%). He was also the closets to win MVP out of these players. In my opinion in his prime was a better player and imp[acted winning more.

Howard can replace Rodman.
Rodman is not even in the Hall of Fame. Miller and McGRady are.

The reds are the nos. The oranges are the maybes.

Instead of those would likely be McGrady, Carter, Reggie Miller, Gary Payton and someone like Nique or Hill or Webber (over Bosh in particular). Allen could still slip in amongst that group too, but he's a terminally overrated player who barely made any All NBA teams. Jokic will need time. As will Lillard as a borderline figure. Being generous to Kawhi and Giannis who don't have full career numbers. Kawhi especially is dicey because he doesn't seem to actually like to play basketball, and might never put up full career stats.

Howard will get passed on like Gilmore was the first list. He will make it when his NBA career is finalized and fans remember how good he was when the next 25 year list is made to round out the 100 greatest players ever.

Someone needs to tell me why Vince is getting his named mentioned so many times. I get he is a very popular player but on the court wise, his name doesnt deserve to be in this discussion.

parker
ginobili
the spurs set the standard for all orgs. so as a team these two should be in if you want to insert klay
if you add jokic you may as well luka

the grey area comes into effect when you exposit circumstance because there are players here who are GREAT but have nothing to show for it but numbers while other very good players were KEY in their team, and none more than ginobili and parker

i think you can add some objectivity to the criteria by adding rings as a FIRST....only to make is easier to choose before having to use our medula oblongata
