Which star do you take in their prime? And why?

Carmelo Anthony's best season (2012-13): 28.7 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 2.6 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.5 BPG, 44.9 FG%, 37.9 3P%, 83 FT% | 3rd in MVP, All-NBA 2nd Team, All-Star, Scoring Champion

Melo was unguardable in his prime. Could never say the same for play off P.

George is a terrific player but this seems disrespectful to Melo.

Well Melo definitely took more shots. PG made a higher percentage of his shots and played both sides of the court.

Who would I chose? It is a interesting question. I'd take whichever was hot but overall I'd lean to the guy that played both sides of the court.

If Paul George can’t guard him then all that talk about his defense goes out the window.

PG13's defense is so far superior to me it was an easy choice. Melo is obviously better in iso though.

I'll take the 2 way, switchable wing. Back when Melo was at his peak we way overrated the importance of isolation scoring and underrated the importance of defensive versatility. Knowing what we know now, Paul George is a much more valuable player archetype.

Defense matters, as does ball-stopping, which Melo did more of than George. George wins.

It's hard to believe this is even a question. Goes to show that hype skews perception. Melo has the great name and the college pedigree. But George is beter.

Both players struggled to get out of the first round of the playoffs as the lead player on their team, but without knowing what our made-up team actually needs, it's simply easier to pick Paul George and fit him in to just about any team.

Could make the same argument for Durant over James if your team already had a fluid offense.

Melo was unguardable in his prime. Truly an unstoppable scorer but you can’t ignore the other side of the ball. I think Melo gets Bella underrated in the media and by message board stat nerds but looking at the numbers the slight edge goes to George. Both these players have also been to conference finals as the best player on their team. If Detroit have drafted Melo we’d be talking about him as one of the unquestionable greats now.

By the way Melo has averaged 22ppg vs PG. PG averaged 19.4ppg in 25 regular season games
Melo took 3.6 more FG a game to average 2.6 PPG more than PG
Is that the offensive dominance you are speaking about?
PG's teams won 15 of their 25 regular season games head to head

We knew it then too and had the numbers to demonstrate it given Roland Beech's 82games.com first started publishing +/- data the year before Melo entered the league.

PG barely played as a rookie in 2011. He was not a starter so I doubt many of those points came against PG.

Melo was a legit top 5 player in the NBA at some point in his career. PG never. Easily Melo for me.

You were posting stats that had Melo way past his prime and thought they were relevant

Paul George’s defense was at his peak in 2013 and 2014 where he was named to an all NBA defensive teams in back to back seasons but yet he couldn’t guard prime Melo. So.. yeah. So much for his defense.
