deGrom wasn’t going to be the difference maker.
The Mets ranked 27th in Runs Per Game and Total Bases Per Game. They ranked 30th in At Bats and Plate Appearances, and 29th in Hits Per Game. I can keep going.
The team flamed out and it appears, at least so far, none of the big names in baseballs front offices want anything to do with Cohen and his carnival.
Degrom would have accounted for at least 10 more wins, maybe more, which puts us very close. Syndergaard would have made a difference too, along with not having all of those injuries in the beginning of the year to our top hitters. That is one of the reasons it was low.
It's funny because at the trade deadline people were screaming for pitcher, instead of hitter, but they did the right thing. Keep in mind Lindor struggled early adjusting and missed tons of time. Baez also wasn't on the team for half the year, so my point stands, that signing him is super important. A healthy Mets team is a playoff mets team if you sign Baez and make a few other adjustments.
