Y'all sold us a bill of goods on Delon Wright.

Post#1 » by shakes0 » Tue Jan 4, 2022 5:34 pm

When the Hawks signed Delon Wright this off season I admittedly didn't know anything about him. So I turned to the one place in the world where I was sure to get the most expert opinions on basketball talent...the Real GM boards!

And i was pleasantly surprised to see a near unanimous praising of the move and poster after poster gushing about how solid a player he is.

Well Real GM I'm here on behalf of Hawks fans to say we don't appreciate your ruse. It's obvious that everyone here got together and conspired to lie to Hawks fans and tell us all that Delon Wright is a good player when in fact he's a complete bum. Congrats Real GM, you got us. we fell for it.

You could've been honest with us and told us that he's actually terrible and looks downright afraid to touch the basketball and shoots about as bad as an uncoordinated 7 footer. But I get it, where would the fun in that be?

So kudos you jokesters.

I'm confused. Stats would indicate he's doing pretty well in limited minutes.

4 points, 3 rebounds, 2.5 assists while slashing 43/47/81. His advanced stats don't look too bad either.

If you don't want him, I'd gladly take him off your hands and add him to the terrible bench that is the Raptors bench.

Delon is a 2 way player who has experience playing along side PGs. You have a superstar PG. It makes sense he doesn't play much. but can play if needed and do an admirable job.

I think it's because he actually plays defense and that goes against everything the Hawks are doing this year lol.

Numbers look "wright" in line with his career averages except that he's not getting up nearly as many shots. :dontknow: Not sure what you were expecting when you take away 30% of a guys' buckets.

I still think Lou Williams minutes need to be going to Delon. One of the worst defensive teams in the league (and best offenses) and for some reason Nate McMillan decides to have Lou Williams in the rotation. Delon is your best defensive guard. Give him the backup PG role full time rather than using him as a low minute combo guard. Look out how well the Hawks do when they play Delon Wright without Lou Williams.

Just going to say it again: The Hawks are 2nd in offense, 27th in defense, with a negative net rating... and Nate McMillan decides to carve out a rotation spot for a 35-year-old Lou Williams. This Hawks team is already playing big minutes to Trae Young and Cam Reddish, and Nate McMillan is just like... let me have a little Lou Williams as well... as a treat.

The Hawks have 1 plus defender in the backcourt right now. Delon Wright. Play this man 25+ mpg

Didn't he have a huge game the other day - he does play better as the primary ball handler tho with shooters around him

It's weird. When he's a complete afterthought, he's fine. Plays solid d, gives you rebounding from the guard position.

But when he's put in a position of having to actually do something, he's terrible. Sadly, due to injuries then covid absences, they've needed him to carry a load he's not able to. Seems to lead to the poor and uneven play shakes is noting.

I wouldn't suspect it would show up in his metrics or stats or w/e. Doing things like passing up butt-nekked, open shots isn't quantifiable, for example.

The hope is that, as guys return, he'll be relegated to a role more suited for him. Then, what he's good at will shine.

Delon is just way too passive. I expected him to be solid as a Maverick in a backcourt that desperately needed defense and some playmaking from the guard spot but too often he just floated out there.

There was a reason the Grizzlies (one of the best front offices in the league IMO) let him go and then signed Tyus Jones to the same exact contract Delon ended up getting

Delon Wright was great in Detroit playing for Casey, he was terrible in Dallas before we traded for him tho. I would rather have him than CoJo, he would be starting for us next to Cade, and would be helping him a lot.

Delon has subpar athleticism with slower foot speed and a non factor finishing above the rim. He's a sg that likes to pass is all it is. This Hawks team needs a Brunson type of guard. They will need to give up value to get that person.

Lou is in his last year before he retires. I can only think that's the reason Nate gives him minutes when Lou should be completely out of the rotation. Hawks fans have been begging almost all season to have removed from the rotation but our coach refuses. It is maddening. Wright at least plays defense. I think he's a better backup SG than PG but a dead cat would play better defense than Lou Will.

His production is solid and in all honesty you paid a 2nd round pick and pocket lint to get him. What exactly were you expecting?
