Would Ben Simmons make sense for Toronto?

Post#1 » by PhillyFan11 » Sun Jan 23, 2022 12:24 am

Garry Trent Jr, Boucher, Dragic, and 2023 lotto protected 1st for Ben Simmons and Danny Green

Toronto uses Ben and Siakam as a stretch 4/5 combo giving them a freakishly fast and athletic lineup that would be able to D up any team. Plenty of spacing and shooting to utilize Ben’s skill set as a facilitator. Danny Green would also be a nice vet bench piece for the Raptors that is under contract next year. In theory the raptors are much better next year and the pick is the 20’s+.

FVV
OG
Barnes
Siakam
Simmons

Gary Trent Jr is a very nice fit in the Sixers backcourt next to Maxey while also giving Morey $27M in expirings + an extra pick to flip into another good player for the Sixers lineup.

Thoughts?

Value alone thats a really big win for Toronto even if the fit is less than optimal. I think Sixers can and should do (quite a bit) better than that.

This is way short for Philly, even with Simmons' trade value being tanked.

That is a no go for the Sixers. If that is the best offer, Morey will wait.

Funny how wildly the opinions on Simmons vary…I assumed most would say Toronto wouldn’t do it.

What if it was Toronto’s unprotected ‘22 1st and then like a ‘25 lotto protected 1st?

And I get that that package doesn’t look great but it’s more about the 3 team trade and who Morey could get for the $27M in expirings and picks.
WORST case scenario in a Ben trade we end up with Trent Jr, Jerami Grant and Boucher + a future pick? Sign me up and then go trade Tobi for anything

Seconded. I don't think Simmons is a good fit for us but if that was the cost you have to think very seriously about it. I also agree that the Sixers are unlikely to bite on this. If they were satisfied with this type of return he would have been dealt long ago.

What about OG + Dragic for Simmons, and whatever picks it takes to get done. Any Sixers deal here IMO starts at a player like OG.

If this happens Danny Green will finally get his 2019 championship ring.

I don't think Simmons is a good fit for the Raptors, and I definitely don't think they should trade one of the few shooters they have for him, but the Sixers wouldn't do this without, at least, two unprotected 1sts attached.

This trade has TOR getting Simmons without giving up 1 of their top 4 players and only a lotto protected 1st.

Simmons fits better if Siakam is gone in it because they both are ballhandlers who aren’t great off the ball in the halfcourt. I think a Raps deal for Simmons would be based on Siakam going out and presumably at this point the Raps getting something else like a pick to be insurance in case Simmons just keeps getting worse on offense or retires or something else I can’t even think of im already Scared as a raps fan.

Barnes is realistically untouchable, but in theory a huge multi team deal where he went out and Simmons and shooting came back also makes some (again theoretical sense).

At that cost? Sure. Don't see a reason for Sixers to do charity though, thats a terrible offer.

Simmons makes a lot of sense to a lot of teams. Read what morey said in his podcast closely. He says it takes two to make a trade. So he knows he’s also being low baller.

And read closely. He says he’s not gonna to make a trade to make the other team stronger and the sixers weaker. Almost better to let Simmons keep faking the mental illness and cringe as his paychecks get smaller with fines. Sure Simmons Will show up from time to time to cooperate. But this is gonna to drag on for a long time

At that price, ofc. Generally tho he doesnt. Raps already have a couple athletic 6'9 ball handlers and they lack shooting. At Morey's price, simmons makes no sense for the Raps

Based on Morey’s comments regarding getting a top 40 players, the only two players from Toronto that would fit the bill is FVV or Siakim.

Personally, knowing FVV is not someone Toronto wants to deal, I think Siakim and A player (Trent/Flynn etc) could get Simmons at the end of the day.

I wouldn't trade FVV alone for Simmons at this point

I would never trade fvv for Ben . This non starter for the sixers they aren’t great trade partners . Ben already said he’s not fan of Toronto . Toronto doesn’t want 76ers problem

its been talked about in the past many times; Simmons simply isn't a good fit with what Toronto needs right now, which is more scoring and shooting.

Bad fit for Toronto, bad value for Philly.
