The Cancer Causing Illness Effecting The Lakers
The cancer is Russell Westbrook; he has had a history throughout his NBA career starting with OKC. Now the Lakers have a vaccination process to remedy this illness. The name is trade and cut your losses before it is too late. If the Laker Nation has a better prognosis. I would invite you to comment and provide a better analysis. Solving this problem can speed the actions to recovery. What is remaining to this season and return to the playoffs.

Re: Illness Effecting The Lakers
The team has a problem on offense, because three of its top stars, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Carmelo Anthony, prefer to play isolation basketball. The coaching staff believes that pushing the pace and passing the ball quickly to find the open man will lead to better results. I can understand LeBron wanting to "take over" when no one is hitting the basket, but I agree with the coaching staff, that moving the rock will lead to a better team-wide performance. The times when that has actually happened were revelatory.
The clash of styles within the team has led to fits and starts--quarters, especially the fourth quarter, where the team dumps the ball to James, Carmelo, or Davis, clears the half court, and just watches. Currently, LA is 10th in the league in scoring, about where they were two years ago, but 22nd in Offensive Rating; the latter ranks behind the Trailblazers, Pacers, and Kings. They are 24th in Assist/Turnover Ratio, which is largely the result of having a turnover-prone point guard, Russell Westbrook.
On defense, there is not much to add to what everyone else has said. Nearly all the players, Austin Reaves, Stanley Johnson, and Avery Bradley excepted, have shown either a lack of defensive intensity or a lack of skill. Currently, the team ranks 17th in Defensive Rating and 21st in Defensive Rebounding. Is that on the team leaders, the Big Three, or on the coaching? I think it is a combination of both.
