Most double teamed players in the NBA

Post#1 » by alienchild » Thu Feb 17, 2022 12:53 am

Never knew that FVV was getting this. He's 6th among all players. Pascal 13th

Considering he's the only ballhandling guard we play, it makes sense. Likewise with Pascal

What? Our starting lineup is filled with ball handlers?
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

I'm surprised joker isn't in the top 20

I know he can pass but Murray and MPJ are out. He's all they have

10. Russell Westbrook

Why are people doubling him? Opposing teams should keep the ball in his hands as long as possible

You are suggesting that FVV, SIakam, and Barnes are not all good ball handlers / playmakers? Hell, you can add GTJ as a guy who can handle the ball and get his own shot.

This is just blind hatred lol

I'm pretty sure the answer here is Lou Williams.

I imagine this list has a lot to do with players that have many possessions with pick & roll/pop actions. Im just speculating based on certain players I see though.

Thanks for sharing OP.

Picked up a lot of steam in January when they were hitting him with doubles from everywhere and that was one of the drivers to Pascal having the ball more, fvv’s slump and to what we are doing now.

Considering how bad our lineup is at creating a shot (Aside from Trent and Siakam, it makes sense. Get the ball out of Freds hand's and the raptors will likely stall.

Thanks OP. Interesting stat. Kind of matches the eye test that both Pascal and Fred draw a lot of attention from opposing teams.

What's really encouraging is that they're both near the top on team points per possession on those plays where they're double-teamed. We know that Pascal has been doing an excellent job of finding the open man out of doubles this year, but it seems Fred, despite his size, isn't getting swallowed up and also manages to generally get the ball where it needs to go.

Aside from the extra possessions from steals and offensive rebounding, that seems to have been the driver for our better-than-expected offensive rating this year.

That's interesting. I'm not familiar with the distinction. Could you explain it, please?
The good thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.
The bad thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.

I'm going to guess Westbrook is going to double teams himself and not the other way around lol.

The best part of that chart is the PPP when double teamed:

FVV = 1.23
Pascal = 1.20

The only other guys at 1.2 or greater are Giannis and LeBron (1.21), and Beal (1.25).

he shoudn't be double teamed. his passing is one of his greatest assets and he's 7 feet tall. he can see over most NBA defenders.

Lol what?

Barnes/OG are poor ball handlers, Siakam is fine especially for his position but even his handle isn't very tight, even he's admitted that lol

GTJ is not a ball handler either. He can create his own shot off the dribble a bit, but by no means is he a ball handling guard.

There is a reason our offense is middle of the pack and looks absolutely dreadful at times. We lack guys who can create offense through their ability to handle the basketball in the half court

this. Barnes and OG can't handle the ball and can't create for themselves on a consistent basis.

and like what Dukes said, GTJ doesn't create for others and is strictly a scorer in this stage of his career.

everyone knows this. thats why the strategy is get the ball out of Siakam and FVV's hands. hence this conversation of the stats by OP.
