Bronny James

Post#1 » by mplsfonz23 » Tue Mar 1, 2022 9:03 pm

Is there a thread on him started?

I haven't seen him play much, but several blue blood schools are trying to get him.
Is he any good? Or is he just getting looks because of his dad?

Probably mostly because of his dad. 4 star recruit, 43rd ranked on ESPN, would not have any buzz if not for the name.

Yeah, I think this is the correct answer. By no means a bad a player but he's also someone that none of us would have on their radars if it wasn't for his dad. I'm sure LBJ has been saying this stuff about wanting to play with Bronny to give us son a boost as well.

He's good but not NBA good if LeBron wants to play his last season with Bronny it'll have to be in the G-League

He's ranked outside the top 40. Go back and look at the high school rankings, after the top 40 there is anywhere from 3-5 players to make it to the NBA. So to answer your question he is a long shot for the NBA based on talent.

He's a 6'2" combo guard who's one of the best defenders and overall highest IQ guys in high school basketball. I've watched most of his games the last two years, he always makes a positive impact, but he's got a very limited amount of wiggle and burst off dribble so his shot-creation abilities, even in high school, are also very limited. He can be inconsistent with his jumper but he has good form. Needs to put on some actual size, and not just height. he's not a legit NBA prospect, but if he adds some bulk, perfects his jumper and gets at least a passable amount of first step quickness and handle, he can be a decent role player that gets traded often.

Below is an extremely accurate scouting report on Bronny.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2953737-full-nba-scouting-report-for-sierra-canyons-bronny-james

Projected archetype: Connector/Three-and-D combo

NBA comparisons: De'Anthony Melton, Ayo Dosunmu, Lonzo Ball

If LeBron is serious about teaming up with his son, the idea that the Jameses may come as a package out of the 2024 draft could affect Bronny's stock. It seems reasonable to think that playoff teams and contenders will be interested in a 39-year-old LeBron if the cost was picking his kid in the teens or 20s.

LeBron aside, Bronny still has the athletic ability, an easy-fit skill set and A-plus intangibles that NBA teams should find attractive on his own.

Given his size and questionable creation upside, he doesn't appear to possess the type of ceiling that would typically warrant lottery buzz. Offensively, will his shooting and passing be enough to offset limited half-court creation? Without on-ball offensive upside or the height to easily match up against wings, it seems more realistic to project him as a role player or reserve.

James will be in a good spot next year to receive more reps and develop as a top option with Bailey gone, so there is no reason to write his limitations in permanent marker just yet. However, his path to NBA rotations will likely depend on consistent shooting complementing his two-way IQ in a supporting role.

Let’s just say this is a situation where the Son will make it to the NBA solely because his father said he will go where his son goes. Excellent way to guarantee your son makes the NBA. I would’ve done the same. Truthfully, it’s all about practice. They got the resources for training to get him in the NBA.

43rd in the US only. Add international and he doesn't probably get drafted if it all stays the same.

He's not good. Not even the best player on his own team. Looks like a fringe role player in the NBA. Of course, he's still young and could improve a ton depending on his work ethic. I think it'd be best for him to play a couple years in college.

I can't really fault LeBron for wanting to help his son here. He's talked in the past about regretting naming his son after him because it created too much pressure, but that he did that because his father was absent and he's sort of overcompensating for that on his end by trying to be a very present dad. I think talking about wanting to play with him in the NBA before retiring unintentionally adds to the pressure, but I also know that his heart's in the right place and that he's just trying to help his kid.

Don't think he deserves hate for that.

Two ways to look at the James duo stuff...

1) Getting the chance to land LeBron James in the deal will most definitely help Bronny James' pro career.
2) Ugh. That's a lot of pressure on a kid... having your global icon father tout your basketball skills THIS much for this many years.

If his name was Chet Holmgren he'd be looking at a fringe D1 career

If he is so desperate to get his son on the NBA feeding wagon. A team doesn’t even have to burn a pick, they can just sign him undrafted. Won’t be glamorous but at least his useless son has a job.

He's athletic but that doesn't make you an amazing basketball player.

If someone like Fred Van Vleet can make it, so can Bronny --- as long as he has the passion and work ethic for the game, and resilience and focus to stay the course through injuries, setbacks, and personal/life issues. With that level of privilege and wealth though, maintaining the passion, work ethic and mental resilience/focus can be challenging. Someone like Fred Van Vleet felt like it was the NBA or nothing else to fall back on; Bronny won't be in that situation.
